PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Close to the Action

So mom came back home tonight, it seemed much sooner than usual; and Pipi and Ah did our usual thangs, following mom around, eating, and chasing each other afterwards.

And then, Ah noticed mom got into this new ...thang of hers. She actually began to move around in a strange way, and there waus this noise coming out of this beeeg thang [wall system] in the uther room where she don't usually go any moare [living room], and Ah see mom jumping around this way and that..

Well, hey! Ah wanted to see what this waus awl about. Ah wanted to be close to it awl. So Ah jumped up on the coffee table which waus the closest way Ah could be to mom. And Ah keep hearing the noise out loud [music], and watchin' mom move awl over the place [dancing], and Ah'm watching. Ah'm watching carefully and cautiously, Ah'm watching her feet and awl.. mah eyes are real big 'coze Ah down't know what this is really awl about. But mom's seems excited so ... Ah wanna be close to that.

So, she leans over every once in a while and strokes mah head.. And then she goes back to her moving around.

Huh... well, that waus eenteresting..

Tuft Aftermath

Well, mah day deed eemprove, after awl. Een fact, after awl waus said and done, Ah went back upstairs for a third time this morning after bean served mah breakfast, and plopped right down on the bed on the very spot where mom lays her head.

It waus awl cool and Ah relaxed after mah meal. Ah knew she waus gonna get ready to go pretty soon. So naw Ah could cawncentrate on the matter at hand: the "cleaning" she waus talking about earlier - and making mah life miserable there for a few meenutes.

So Ah decided Ah waus gonna take the heent and stretch mah one leg awl the way up in the air while Ah sat there, and go deep in mah nethers and clean up. Where the sun don't shine.

Ah tale you, Ah worked awn it, and worked awn it... Ah had that leg up in the air for minutes on end. And as soon as Ah plopped it back down and settled comfortably in my sleeping position, she comes over with that snippy thang again.

Ah tale you what: This time? Ah waus a little too relaxed to put up a fight. She served me mah breakfast, it waus good.. so Ah let her snip in there some more... Ah knew Ah was gonna sleep soon, and she waus gonna go 'bye-bye'.

:))

Nawt A Good Start

Mom woke up this morning and she let me in right away and Ah climbed on the bed to be with her. Ah patiently sat to her side, knowing she waus steel drowsy and under the covers.

And then mah morning turned slowly to a beet of a nightmare.

First of awl, mom turned awl her attention to me, wantin' to hug me and pretty much smother me. She did make the 'pat down' on her stomach for me to come closer but Ah didn't oblage. So she turns to me in full swing and is naw awl over me, and Ah'm laike.. 'whoa, there lady..'.. Ah'm sitting steel, kind a panicking awl at once. Mah face took awn this expression of .. remorse.

Naw, if that wausn't enough, Ah knew Pipi was watching bah the other side of the bed, bah the corner there.

okay then, mom gave up awn me and finally got up. But that wasn't the end of it.... She comes up to me, this time with the shiny little thang [small scissors]. Aw, naww...this wasn't boding well at all. Pipi told me last time NAWT to trust this little thang.

Ah shifted this way and that but mom kept taling me 'it's okay, I just want to clean you'. So she snips what appears to be MAH fur off mah ... nethers area. Down there.. And Ah look at the tufts, confused. What in the hale?

She wanted moare out of me. And Pipi was there near us now, right next to me, closely watching her every move in horror. And then she jumped down altogether, she couldn't take it. So Ah was left to deal with mom all alone, and seeing Pipi flee made me even moare alarmed.

"NAWWW!", Ah cried and dug mah claws right down, pushing. And then mah one paw got stuck and Ah couldn't take it out as Ah pushed even harder backwards. Aww, come awn! This is too muuuch. "Hey, it's not my fault that you got stuck now!", Ah heard mom say.

"Hiiisssssss!" , I had to finally speak up and let her have a piece of mah mind. Ah can't take it any moare! You can't violate me and mah 'down there' this early in the morning.

Naw, Pipi jumped back up and stuck her nose near me to see if Ah waus okay. Ah was so embarrassed, Ah tried to make it look laike nuttin' was happening - Ah quickly jumped down and she jumped down with me.

"What happened Googie? what did she do to you?", she looked at me, craning her neck to mah face, as we both quickly walked out of mom's room in unison. "Ah daun't wanna talk about it Pipi, okay?"... Ah'd rather look down on the floor and quickly make an escape down to the kitchen.

Ah steel expected, however, mom to serve me mah breakfast. Which she deed, she deeed. And then we awl ended up back 'upstairs' again where mom usually does other thangs. Ah jumped back up on the bed and what do Ah notice: the shiny thang is steel there, right on the bed. Nose-to-thang.

Believe it or nawt, mom got away with snipping moare out of me this second time... while Pipi looked awn again like she was doin' ...uhm, they cawl it whaat naw? "surgery".. Ah just couldn't believe it... Ah'm seeing moare of mah own tufts just laying there next to mah private parts. Put mah nose right awn them to make sure, is this really happening??!! Ah felt so violated, Ah had to put a stop to it, Ah kept shifting mah position in mom's bed and she took mah hint.

[This is what we go through for a ... sanitary snip. Gabriel is a long-hair cat and when he pi's his long hair behind there gets all matted in knots...]

Just For Once

Mom came home tonight and she had a whole lot of these scrunchy bags that I fear so much.

Oh, but I know that one of them always has my 'nummy-num' inside, so when the bags are sitting still and don't make this noise? I stick my nose in them to search for the right thingys... I never know which one it is that has my [food] in them.

So we had our dinner, first thing. And then mom started putting things away in the kitchen as usual. Googie and I got all excited and chased each other after our dinner.. Googie even started banging himself up against the kitchen doors, sliding all the way through the [hardwood] floor.

And then I realized mom was out of view.. She was on 'the thang' again, out of sight. THIS? was my chance.

She had left the place all open, what a bonanza! [upper cabinet doors]. That's where my 'nummy num' goes! Oh, I just jumped up there on the double and crawled right on those 'nummy-num' thingys! (cans). What field day. Now I could just get my own! ?......

And then I heard her get up which pretty much slammed me into reality-check and onto the floor -- before she could see me.

Oh, and then I had another bonanza, back-to-back! She left a "pen" thingy on the other counter, with its cap thingy just begging for my attention. Oh, I wanted it SO. (Oh well but dang it, I had to drop down from there too before she could catch me.)

[ THUD ! goes the cat from the counter..]

[And what do I see? She did reach the Fancy Feast cans, and had pushed a couple of them deeper into the cabinet. And then found the marking pen's cap on the floor...]

Making Myself Clear

Last night, I took my position on mom's bed and got nice and comfy, curling up my body just so. It looked like mom was going to let me stay there for the night. I knew that because I watched her go through every thing she does every night right before she closes the door. And she had done all these things - and not closed the door.

Instead, she climbed on the bed and let me stay. Until Googie busted in like a bull in my china shop.

I watched him walk this way and that, he couldn't decide where to plop himself down or what to do.. What a retard. And then he starts coming my way, acting like he expected me to move! For him. And I've already chosen this spot, and it's by the bed's corner. So here he was now, towering over me, threatening my peace and quiet.

Well, you know? I'm tired of Googie's antics, his bluffing, his stupid threats. I'm tired of squealing. I had to take a stand. Make myself clear.

I hissed. That's right, I actually hissed at him.

This got both Googie's and mom's attention, who craned her neck from her spot to see what was going on. "No fighting...", she says in a quiet tone. Well, I don't think this would've stopped Googie any more than my hissing DID. I've never hissed at him before and it was about time I started.

He left me alone and finally chose his own spot.

Looking Out for Pipi

Mom came home tonaight.. well, she's been in and out tuday..

So, anywah, Ah knew Pipi was eager to get some of her uther 'nummy num' as she cawls it.. So she hung out bah the kitchen close to mom, watching her every move.

Well, the 'nummy num' never came. Ah heard mom tale Pipi to go eat what was already on the bowls.

Next thang Ah knew, Pipi is boltin' up the stairs. We could just hear her galloping awl over the place up there, back and forth, running around laike a mad cat and beetching.

Ah stood bah the bottom of the stairs for a while looking up, wondering when this was gonna stop - It didn't. So Ah started to eagerly bounce up the steps, mah ears perked up and ready to eentervene. Ah had to get up there and make sure she was aw'right, to say the least.

Came down just a few later.. after Ah determined thangs were under control. And Pipi did too right after me, she was composed naw. She just had to let it awl hang out in private, that's the thang.

She gets that wah sometimes when she don't get her uther 'nummy num'.

New Words Ah Learn

Tuday, Ah heard mom cawling me quate early. Ah had to wake from sleep and finally found mah way up to see her bah the thang again. Pipi was already fawning all over her and Ah decided Ah had had enough. Ah started to chase her a little bit.

Then Ah stood nearbah mom and trahd to warn Pipi to stay away. She crouched beneath me and tried to plead with me, squealing.

Ah lost mah footing right about that time, and Ah don't mean mah own paws... Mom came out from behand me and broke it up. She picked up Pipi and walked away with her. Huh... Ah was just left standing there whale Pipi was now getting the royal treatment with mom placing her bah the food bowls.

'Ain't gonna ween this battle', Ah figured, so Ah sauntered over to the middle of the kitchen floor and began to roll mah belly back and forth, knowing mom would be noticing.

She noticed aw'right: She stood there, looking at me, whale Ah'm in this ridiculously compromasin' position and said to me in an even tone:

"Don't be an asshole. Okay? Just DON'T be an asshole".

Ah craned mah neck upwards as Ah layed there on the floor, belly up, and mah eyes got awl dilated as Ah looked right at mom's eyes and strived to understaaand this new word Ah had never heard of bafawre.
