PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Taking Mah Precawtions

You know? Ah've seen Pipi perch on top of the couch "downstairs"? And she's done it plenty of times.

Well, this time Ah decided Ah was gonna take the same safe measures: after puttin' up with her shenanigans for the past few days, trahing to get some quality sleep in peace and quiet? And nawt been able to 'cauze of Pipi comin' at me, trahing to make out with me?

Ah've climbed AWL the way up on top of the couch right here in the leeving room - it's the safest spot yet. Ah got the window behand me and Ah can see Pipi comin' if Ah have to.

She can't just walk right over to me and wake me up with her wiles.

[We had an appointment at the vet's today but we can't do it - she's in heat again. ]

We Don't Do That In This House

There's something this cat really doesn't like, he is angry as hell.
But it's not my darling Gabriel.. god forbid if I had to deal with THAT every day.
Although my sister's cat is liable for this type of behavior..

We have been... Featured :)

Yes, it's true.. I discovered a while back that our Princess Diaries videos have been ...inventoried in a website:

Whah, Gabriel is... almost famous!

:))

Hot-Pink Earplugs In the Wake

Eet waus a while back when a stranger came into the house.

Ah sensed him comin' while I waus under mom's bed, having a ball of a time deescovering all kinds of nifty thangs like these bright-colored [hot pink] 'thingies'... er, Ah thank Pipi would call it. [earplugs] Ah put one in mah mouth with the intent of playin' with it and keeping it for mahself.

So, here Ah waus, in a trance-eenduced bleeess.

But wouldn't you know it - they both came insade in that room. Both mom and that stranger.

And me, Ah'm under the bed. Ah panicked and mah first eenstinct waus to flee - and so Ah did.

Damn-it-to-HALE!! Ah made a run for it, Ah tale you! With that bright-colored 'thingy' in my mouth.

Ah ran so fast, Ah could see 'em both out of the cawrner of mah eye... and mah treasured, precious bright-colored 'thingy' dripping awn down from my mouth as Ah ran way outta there.

[ ... He left a trail of hot-pink earplugs in his scramble to get on out of there... ]

:))

Started The Day Out Right

I started the day out right this morning.

I found mom lounging on the bed, watching 'TV' and I jumped right on there and gave her a really good massage. I didn't think she looked that hot so I just kept on and on with the massage.

And then I had to rest by her side.

[The cat-massage on my belly must have lasted at least ten minutes. :)) ]

It Waus Time...

Mom came down to the kitchen tuday but she really didn't spend much time in there. She kept going "upstairs" and what nawt.

So while she waus up there, Ah figured it waus time to open up the bottom cabinet. Ah figured, Ah would help out.. Ah mean, that's what she duzz... She opens cabinets.

And so do Ah.

Bump, bump, bump... "Gabrieeelll?? what are you doing down there??!!"

[It takes him a few tries to open the cabinet doors.. he just opens them and leaves them open.. I guess he wants to be part of the kitchen action. ]

What's She Up to Now?

I was lounging in peace on top of mom's legs on the couch this late afternoon, and Googie was perched just above me looking out the window.

All was well, as could ever be. Mom was watching 'TV'. And I tried to go into a snooze.

Until suddenly? She started that laugh again. I can never trust that laugh, I know something is up, and I end up as the object of the joke.

So I came to and turned my face just a little in her direction, my one eye showing out of the corner of her knee.

I kept a check on her, motionless. Should I or shouldn't I? I know that laugh. It's all on me, somehow.

The more I kept looking at her with my one-eye-sharp fest, the more she laughed. I really didn't know what to do. I was too comfortably wedged in between her lower legs to just jump on outta there.

[It finally ended as I had to get on up from that frekking couch! ]

Copy Cat-ing

It's just so amazing..

I just went to the couch and looked out the living room window for a moment.

By the time I went back to the laptop in the dining room, Princess ran over to the same spot, climbed on top of the couch and began to look out the window.

When I go to the kitchen? They follow me. (And Gabriel starts eating.)

When I'm primping in the upstairs full bath? They clean themselves.

Amazing copy cats.

Mah New Tactic

Ah guess Ah'm upsetting mom again ... but it's worth it.

Ah get to interfere just like last night. She's AWN the thang again [laptop on the dining table] and Ah jumped up after a while, did mah shimmie-shim up against her face, mah tail brushing off of her...

"NOoooo!", she protested. "EXCUSE me!!". Awright, Ah got it..

Ah then sauntered the uther wah, bah that uther thang she keeps touching. Yaw see, Ah can tale, she's somehow got to have that uther small thang if she's gonna keep on. It's a much smaller, whate thang in a kinda.. round shape, and it's awn the side of 'the thang' [the laptop].

So Ah shimmied casually over there and plopped mah butt right over it. Ah figured, that'll put a crimp on her busy-ness...

"Heyyy!!... Excuse me!!", she begged again. "Nooooo..."

But Ah acted casually, ignoring her pleas, looking in her eyes as lovingly as ever as Ah turned just enough to let 'er get a grip on that side thang.

[Talk about passive-aggressive... He plopped his ass right on my mouse! ]

Bearing the Brunt

Dis battle waus supposed to be just between me and mom.

You see, Ah jumped up awn the table this evening, right when mom began her doing on 'the thang' again bah the table [laptop]. And so, Ah go awn there to deestract her, you see. Ah act like Ah'm not aware of the thang at awl now... And Ah turn mah back to her, waving mah tail furiously from one end to the other.

But yaw see, mah tail apparently slapped her in the face one too many times. So she picked me up without a word, mand you, and put me down. Ah did an encore, just to see if Ah could get mah wah.. Ah jumped back up 'dere and shimmied some more.

Back down Ah went and this time? She was peeesed.. She waved her finger in my face, held awn to my tail, waving it at me whale Ah was down on the floor trying to appease her, and yelled at me. Ah gawt back awn mah feet as soon as Ah could and trahd to brush up against her.. You know, Ah can't take her quite seriously, Ah mean... 'cmon!

Leetle did Ah know though that Pipi over 'dere was watchin' the whole thang. As soon as mom went back and sat on her chair, and Ah laid down to relax? What do Ah have to cawntend with? But Pipi ... PIPI coming over at me now to pick a fight.

Ah mean, she comes around to me and starts cranking her neeeck ? In that menacing, street-cat way?? And Ah'm already down, and she's taking advantage of that.. Attacking me from behand mah head and neck, going right for my throat and awl?!!! Ah used mah front paws and mah bite just to defeand mahself! Pipi's head was buried deep under mah cheeen!!

"HEYY!! ", Ah heard mom shriek. Pipi jumped off me but her tail was wagging now.. like mine. She came at me once more, whale Ah was steel trahing to lounge, only for mom to scream at us some more. She finally left me alone and walked away with her ears down.

[She was lounging just a few feet away from us when she saw me 'pouncing' on Gabriel about his tail on my face.. And she went over there NEXT, to apparently... do the same thing to him, only more intense, in her own animal-instinct style... OMG! ]

When A Thingy Is Not Just Any Thingy

I watched mom this evening do something different on top of the kitchen counter.

Nowadays, I have to be part of whatever she's doing so I'll climb up halfway, on the side table, and stick my nose onto what she's doing. She lets me.

Well, this time she seemed to be playing with a couple of new-looking thingies. Just small little thingies that I just love to push around.

I waited patiently until she turned her attention elsewhere, and left the room altogether to pounce on these new delights.

Ooops... one of 'em fell to the floor... And there she comes now, see what's up. Next thing I know, they disappeared.

But I might say that next to these thingies? Were her rings... where they usually are. And her rings I can easily pick up with my mouth and run away with them - but I don't, ever. Because those are not "thingies", they are mom's own.

[It was small triple-A type batteries I layed down on the surface counter.. And yes, I can rely on her not to mess with my jewelry. Never taught her not to do it either, she's just... figured it out by herself. Like before, that's how my Princess 1.0 was. :)) ]

What I Learn from Googie

I may be a skittish kitty, a rabbit kitty, and quite nervous overall. But I do learn from Googie, believe it or not.

I'm pretty particular about things like my thingy-collection (bottle caps, just small thingies.. things like that). And pretty particular about when and where I do my scratching - I have my own scratching post. I told Googie that right away.

But I've learned a thing or two from him..

Like, he always seems so unperturbed about being smothered by mom. I really just couldn't be picked up and petted the way HE likes to be. But he's let me know that it's actually? Enjoyable.

And so, nowadays, when mom tries to pick me up and pet me? I do let her... half the times. 'Cause I know it'll feel good, like Googie says. It's okay to be hugged.

And I do let it rip sometimes and claw the carpet -- like he does.

What-In-The-Hale?

Ah waus snoozing awah this mornin' when Ah came to at some point and realized that Pipi wasn't around. Huh.

Well, Ah heard 'em both coming een later awn, Pipi and mom. As they came upstairs, Ah started to notice Pipi wasn't herself..

Ah sprinted over to her and she told me about her trip to "the doctor", that's the word mom says to her.

"Googie, just be lucky you weren't there, okay? I'm really not in the mood, I'm serious. They did something to me back there and I'm not sure what but.. it was kind of an invasion of my privacy".

Ah scrambled to check Pipi out, sniffed her curiously as evah, trahing to figure owt what was different. Ah had to make sure she was awright in awl the right places, eef you know what Ah mean.

"Goog! I just can't stand it!"

"Aw-raight, Pipi.. Ah tale you what: Ah'm gonna really trah this time.. Let me .. straddle you a beet, here... "

Ah looked back at mom's direction as Ah cawntinued to straddle Pipi. Mom seemed beesy with the 'thang' on the daning table [the laptop]. Ah had to step up to the plate 'cauze Pipi told me that they did these thangs to her over there at 'the doctor's' and naw... naw she waus AWL over the place.

Ah finally settled mahself awn the table.. And looked at mom quate disappointed, downright deesgusted, when she passed bah.

[He did too... I've never seen that look on him before.. ]

The Way Things Are

It is "time for beddie-bye" again tonight and as mom said it, I got up from my snooze position near her in the dining room and sprinted up a couple of steps ahead of her.

"mmmmm????", I asked as I looked back at her, making sure this is what we're doing.

"Yuh!", she reassured. "We are going upstairs, that's right!"

I took a couple more steps and looked back at her again: "hhhhmmmmm??? [really? it's time now right?"

"Yup", she said. So I beat her to it, climbed up the steps ahead of her, my tail up in the air. I led us both to her 'beddie-bye' area and climbed on top of the bed.

Of course, Googie is nowhere near this little coumbaya... I have made sure to tell Googie not to disturb us while I have my personal time with mom at the end of the day here.

["Googie" was just found down the steps, mid-way at the landing, resting his chin pensively on top of his paw. He has been apparently relegated to the curb, so to speak, during this time. So, even when I call him up, he always hesitates before he finally sprints up. This is what Princess 1.0 used to do with Stevie.. she used to chase him out of the bed, even - until I put a stop to it. ]

Rabbit Kitty

Princess somehow understands what 'rabbit kitty' is all about.

A -short- video is worth a thousand words.. (watch for frame 12-14 sec's)

Pussyfootin'

You know? Ah guess Ah ain't that good at anteecipatin' thangs in mah way. Ah just jump up wherever and whenever Ah want to, and then Ah fand out a bit too late that ... Ah am disturbing somethang.

Ah jumped up on a small table this afternoon [end table next to couch], so that Ah could look owt the window. Ah figured, the wah to do this, would be to first jump on the leetle table, then hop onto the side of the couch, and then finally jump on top of the couch to perch over the window.

Ah laike this plan better than having to jump from the seat of the couch itself, you see... Becoze it is too soft and doesn't give me enough spring, Ah have to ...overdo it.

[His belly is too big.] :)

Anywah, so Ah jumped. But Ah forgawt that 'dis table is full of thangs. Mom's thangs. [picture frames]. So, unfortunately, Ah made a slight deesturbance. Mom looked up at me from her seat at the daning table, she was awn the thang again.

"Hey?!!". Yeah, Ah looked back all embarassed, really. Nose-to-thangs. Okay, they were eentact. At least they didn't fall over. So that pretty much stopped mah momentum cold. Ah had to tend to awl these thangs, for mom's benefit naw.

And then Ah trahd to jump up to the next step, on the arm of the couch, when Ah realized that, that wouldn't be easy either.

What in the HALE?! Ah put mah nose to these two OTHER thangs, standing in mah way. [the TV remotes].

So Ah had an obstacle course, pretty muuuch.

Ah had to literally pussy-foot around thangs just to get to mah final desteenation.

When Ah Waus Yuuung

Ah remembah when Ah was just a leeetle kid? Ah waus really obseassed with 'the dot'.

There was this leetle thang on the big whate box in the kitchen and it was there owt of nowhere. It just didn't seem to belong there, and Ah didn't understaand WHAT it was doing there.

Every time Ah saw it, Ah attacked it. Ah had a field day with it.

And then one day, Pipi saw me go crazy like that and pretty much attacked me. She yelled at me to stop it! That ah'm making a fool of mahself.

So then, next time Ah waus tempted by mom? Ah first made sure to be on the lookout for Pipi.

And then? Ah let it riiip!!!

[You've GOT to see this... :)) Gabriel in his kitten mode.. just a few months old I think it was..]

I Try To Communicate

I had a nice, private snooze this late morning after mom got up and did her thing and went down out of her room.

I decided I was going to stay up there, by the foot of the bed, lay next to the rabbit, and be the "rabbit kitty". So I got my sleep for a while.

Then I came 'downstairs' and saw mom right in front of me, sitting at the table looking at the 'thing' [laptop].

So, I greeted her, as I slowly sauntered from the steps down to the floor. "Hey? so here you are? ", I chirped, on and on. Trying to get her attention.

But no.. She's looking at this thing again. "Yeah??", she says back to me. But she's not looking at me. She is preoccupied.

I just continued to 'talk' to her a little bit longer. I figured, I'll take what I can get.

[Besides: she did get petted just a few minutes later .. :)) ]

A Mis-Cat-culation

Ah noticed mom the uther day awn the thang again, up 'dere awn the table. And so, Ah hung around and pondered on gettin' up 'dere to be with her. Like usual.

But there was nothing usual about this. Ah took mah jump, thinking it was gonna be one clean table to land awn, and damn-it-to-HALE, that Ah was wroang ! this time...

Ah jumped and landed awn something Ah had nevah SEEN before, nor counted awn. Eet waus some leetle thang awn there and it made me trip, and slide awl over the place, awn that table.

Next thang Ah knew, Ah was bottoms-up and steeel slading awn down the uther end!

Damn-it-to-HALE! Ah gotta get outta here! It was awl Ah could do to jump back down in one piece. And nawt get cawmpletely embarassed.

[I had layed my necklace in the middle of the table and he jumped up and didn't see it or expect it, so he tripped up on it .. and the table is all-glass so... He was slipping and sliding all over the place with his huge belly and back legs.. ]

A Leniant Cat

Ah waus lounging on mom's bed all mornin' long with Pipi bah mah side, and mom sleeping with us.

Awl in awl, it waus a glorious time. Then mom woke up and Ah oblaged: Ah walked awn over to her and started to kiss her and tend to her.

Then she got up and did her usual thangs that she duz when she gets up - all routine.

And then she came back with the 'snip-snip' shiny little thang. As Ah layed there, snoozing, Ah became faintly aware that she was about to "clean" me. Ah could hear her cleep, back and forth ... way back under mah tail.

Ah didn't move, Ah didn't do nuthing.. Ah just let her do whatever she had to do with me. And Pipi didn't either this time, she just layed at the foot of the bed and cawntinued snoozing. Pipi has gotten used to it too, 'cauze Ah told her there was nuthing to it. So she trusts me.

The tufts began to pile right in front of mah face... And after so many meenutes or what nawt, Ah began to question this very thang... Ah began to feal a leetle ...breezier down there and Ah wausn't so sure that 'dis was totally awkay..

Ah demanded to take a closer look at the cleep-sneep shiny thang and mom let me smell it up-close and touch it. Ah had to make friends with it and make sure it was awl goood.

She took it back then, and she cawntinued to 'clean' me back there.. Until Ah decided it waus time to get on up and out of the bed altogether. At which point Pipi did too.

[Gabriel got his 'sanitary clipping' .... :)) ]

Tomorrow

Princess is going to the vet tomorrow morning.

She will go into surgery. And I fret and worry about her because she's such a small cat.

I pray that all will go well tomorrow.

What the Mom Brought In

Mom just came home and I greeted her downstairs, as usual. But I was worried, 'cause she was late.

Anyway, I noticed she brought something new with her. After I ate my dinner, I stepped up a couple of stairs to go check it out.
She left this thing on top of the little table that I can get to from the steps. And so I did, gingerly, step right on top of the little table to investigate.

I had to take a closer look because I could tell by the way she put it on the table that she thought it special.

So as soon as I stepped on there, I saw it. Nose-to-thing. Oh, it was unusual.. sure.

Special for mom, anyway...

[I brought back a friend's gift, an embroidered satin pouch of sorts, made in Greece. And she noticed by the way I handled it and placed it on the small table, that it was, indeed, special. So the first thing she did was to go after me, to check it out. ]

:)
