PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Pussyfootin'

You know? Ah guess Ah ain't that good at anteecipatin' thangs in mah way. Ah just jump up wherever and whenever Ah want to, and then Ah fand out a bit too late that ... Ah am disturbing somethang.

Ah jumped up on a small table this afternoon [end table next to couch], so that Ah could look owt the window. Ah figured, the wah to do this, would be to first jump on the leetle table, then hop onto the side of the couch, and then finally jump on top of the couch to perch over the window.

Ah laike this plan better than having to jump from the seat of the couch itself, you see... Becoze it is too soft and doesn't give me enough spring, Ah have to ...overdo it.

[His belly is too big.] :)

Anywah, so Ah jumped. But Ah forgawt that 'dis table is full of thangs. Mom's thangs. [picture frames]. So, unfortunately, Ah made a slight deesturbance. Mom looked up at me from her seat at the daning table, she was awn the thang again.

"Hey?!!". Yeah, Ah looked back all embarassed, really. Nose-to-thangs. Okay, they were eentact. At least they didn't fall over. So that pretty much stopped mah momentum cold. Ah had to tend to awl these thangs, for mom's benefit naw.

And then Ah trahd to jump up to the next step, on the arm of the couch, when Ah realized that, that wouldn't be easy either.

What in the HALE?! Ah put mah nose to these two OTHER thangs, standing in mah way. [the TV remotes].

So Ah had an obstacle course, pretty muuuch.

Ah had to literally pussy-foot around thangs just to get to mah final desteenation.

When Ah Waus Yuuung

Ah remembah when Ah was just a leeetle kid? Ah waus really obseassed with 'the dot'.

There was this leetle thang on the big whate box in the kitchen and it was there owt of nowhere. It just didn't seem to belong there, and Ah didn't understaand WHAT it was doing there.

Every time Ah saw it, Ah attacked it. Ah had a field day with it.

And then one day, Pipi saw me go crazy like that and pretty much attacked me. She yelled at me to stop it! That ah'm making a fool of mahself.

So then, next time Ah waus tempted by mom? Ah first made sure to be on the lookout for Pipi.

And then? Ah let it riiip!!!

[You've GOT to see this... :)) Gabriel in his kitten mode.. just a few months old I think it was..]

I Try To Communicate

I had a nice, private snooze this late morning after mom got up and did her thing and went down out of her room.

I decided I was going to stay up there, by the foot of the bed, lay next to the rabbit, and be the "rabbit kitty". So I got my sleep for a while.

Then I came 'downstairs' and saw mom right in front of me, sitting at the table looking at the 'thing' [laptop].

So, I greeted her, as I slowly sauntered from the steps down to the floor. "Hey? so here you are? ", I chirped, on and on. Trying to get her attention.

But no.. She's looking at this thing again. "Yeah??", she says back to me. But she's not looking at me. She is preoccupied.

I just continued to 'talk' to her a little bit longer. I figured, I'll take what I can get.

[Besides: she did get petted just a few minutes later .. :)) ]

A Mis-Cat-culation

Ah noticed mom the uther day awn the thang again, up 'dere awn the table. And so, Ah hung around and pondered on gettin' up 'dere to be with her. Like usual.

But there was nothing usual about this. Ah took mah jump, thinking it was gonna be one clean table to land awn, and damn-it-to-HALE, that Ah was wroang ! this time...

Ah jumped and landed awn something Ah had nevah SEEN before, nor counted awn. Eet waus some leetle thang awn there and it made me trip, and slide awl over the place, awn that table.

Next thang Ah knew, Ah was bottoms-up and steeel slading awn down the uther end!

Damn-it-to-HALE! Ah gotta get outta here! It was awl Ah could do to jump back down in one piece. And nawt get cawmpletely embarassed.

[I had layed my necklace in the middle of the table and he jumped up and didn't see it or expect it, so he tripped up on it .. and the table is all-glass so... He was slipping and sliding all over the place with his huge belly and back legs.. ]

A Leniant Cat

Ah waus lounging on mom's bed all mornin' long with Pipi bah mah side, and mom sleeping with us.

Awl in awl, it waus a glorious time. Then mom woke up and Ah oblaged: Ah walked awn over to her and started to kiss her and tend to her.

Then she got up and did her usual thangs that she duz when she gets up - all routine.

And then she came back with the 'snip-snip' shiny little thang. As Ah layed there, snoozing, Ah became faintly aware that she was about to "clean" me. Ah could hear her cleep, back and forth ... way back under mah tail.

Ah didn't move, Ah didn't do nuthing.. Ah just let her do whatever she had to do with me. And Pipi didn't either this time, she just layed at the foot of the bed and cawntinued snoozing. Pipi has gotten used to it too, 'cauze Ah told her there was nuthing to it. So she trusts me.

The tufts began to pile right in front of mah face... And after so many meenutes or what nawt, Ah began to question this very thang... Ah began to feal a leetle ...breezier down there and Ah wausn't so sure that 'dis was totally awkay..

Ah demanded to take a closer look at the cleep-sneep shiny thang and mom let me smell it up-close and touch it. Ah had to make friends with it and make sure it was awl goood.

She took it back then, and she cawntinued to 'clean' me back there.. Until Ah decided it waus time to get on up and out of the bed altogether. At which point Pipi did too.

[Gabriel got his 'sanitary clipping' .... :)) ]

Tomorrow

Princess is going to the vet tomorrow morning.

She will go into surgery. And I fret and worry about her because she's such a small cat.

I pray that all will go well tomorrow.

What the Mom Brought In

Mom just came home and I greeted her downstairs, as usual. But I was worried, 'cause she was late.

Anyway, I noticed she brought something new with her. After I ate my dinner, I stepped up a couple of stairs to go check it out.
She left this thing on top of the little table that I can get to from the steps. And so I did, gingerly, step right on top of the little table to investigate.

I had to take a closer look because I could tell by the way she put it on the table that she thought it special.

So as soon as I stepped on there, I saw it. Nose-to-thing. Oh, it was unusual.. sure.

Special for mom, anyway...

[I brought back a friend's gift, an embroidered satin pouch of sorts, made in Greece. And she noticed by the way I handled it and placed it on the small table, that it was, indeed, special. So the first thing she did was to go after me, to check it out. ]
