The new cat, Getty, has been pretty much in a catatonic state since she got here. Well, pretty much all the way through her stay at the shelter as well, according to her 'behavior rating'. So, to play it safe and make sure it's not a physical ailment, I took her to the vet's today, along with Bella, the darling cat.
She proved near impossible to examine as she hissed, growled, and threatened and then jumped down on the floor and hid behind a chair.
But as "the doctor" came in, sat down on her stool, and began to talk to me, Getty somehow got brave enough to jump all the way up to the counter and then walk over near the doctor.
So she stayed there, in a typical stooping position on all fours, sort of looking on toward the vet. There was no growling, no hissing, no posturing. However, we did have to bring in reinforcements just so she could be examined.. We needed to check her spayed belly. There was a bit of plaintive meowing going on but that was just about it.
On the way back, Getty was quiet. I set the carrier down on the ground floor as I opened the door from the garage. I had to take Bella upstairs first, since she was the one with the virus cold. While Getty was downstairs in the carrier, she apparently came face to face with Gabriel and Princess. Both, disappeared. I mean, I had to go on a mission to find them in the house.
I found Googie underneath my bed, unwilling to come out, his eyes totally dilated and unable to look at me. He was going over in his little cat mind what he had seen, what he had experienced in his short moment with Getty. He was now just as catatonic as she has been.
He came back to join me just a little while later.
