PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Pipi and a Closed Door

Pipi here... for a change. I can tell you that I got really upset one day at Googie [Gabriel]. Well, I get upset at him a lot but that's beside the point.

You see, every morning, we both follow mom to the small room. She goes there every time after she gets up. But this time? This time I encountered a closed door, well, it seemed pretty darn closed to me anyway. Until I saw Googie's paw provoking me. He had made it in and I was shut out!

'Who do you think you ARE, Googie?!!", I lifted my paw at him, I was so upset. "Who do you think you are?!!", I repeated. "Aw, 'cmon Pipi... Ah'm just tryin' to play with 'chu. Why're you laike that? 'Cmon, let's play... Ah'll go awn the uther side of the door and see if you can git mah paws... like that.. See? 'Cmon Pipi, honey... Don't be laike that."

Yeah... that boy tried to divert me allright... But that door was still half-way closed still... And he WAS still on the other side ... It's like.. I'm on the outside-looking-in the whole time.

You know what? At some point? After so many lame pawings-at me? I just went around that damn door and let him have it. "What'd Ah doo naw??!!", he tried to tell me, trying to look all innocent. "You tried to keep me OUT, is what you DID!" I stormed at him.

There.

Ah Waws A Leetle Exhausted...

Mom came home last night and hovered over me a leetle lawnger than usual. You see, Ah stood bah the steps when she came in but Ah wasn't as peppy as usual ... mah face must of showed Ah was a leetle forlorn.. a leetle despondent.

You see, Ah have had to put up with Pipi for the past couple of days... Pipi's been acting up a lot more than usual.. And Ah've been watching over her a lot more, worrying what she maight do, tryin' to take care of her and awl..

Pipi just lets out these yowls and rolls on the floor. The uther day? She stood there raising her whole tail and derriere right at me !. Ah stood there right behand her, looking down... tryin' to decaide what to do: "Now what?", Ah thought. Then mom peeked out at us from the keetchen and when she saw that scene? She quickly disappeared from view.

Ah mean, it's like Pipi has gone into retardation mode. Ah trah mah best to make her feel better, but it's not working.. Ah nip a leetle here, nip a leetle there at her.. But it awl ain't good enough. Then sometimes she's really asking for it and Ah'll chase her awl of a sudden, catch her real good and grab her bah the neck. And then she hisses at me and threatens.

[... Pipi has really gone into overdrive with her real first heat cycle in-earnest... Vet Mitchell? Here we come! ]

Ah'll Go Whare She Can't See Me

Hah, y'awl.. Well, Ah tell ya, Ah do trah to please. Awl the time. Nowadays? Ah'm not that popular bah the food bowl area any moar. Last evening when mom came home, she put out our 'nummy num' and Ah know, Ah had mah own bowl as usual but Pipi and Ah laike to sweetch.

Next thang Ah knew, Ah hear mom sayin': "Let her eat! Let her eat". Ah knew what that meant. So Ah stepped away real quickly. Sometimes she even comes up to me and taps me with her finger, nowadays there's a mention of mah belly too. So, Ah do.. Ah DO step away from the food bowls when Ah hear her teell me to 'let her eat'. In faact, there's times when Ah'll just wait for Pipi to be finished bafawre Ah even go near the bowls.. Ah tell ya, Ah just about bend over backward to please everybody...

This time though, Ah had a new plan. Ah figured, Ah'm gonna go behand the tree over 'dere near the bowls, and just hayde behand it so she can't see me. [there's a new fig tree planter in the corner by the food bowls ... unfortunately, he was quite obvious.. :) ]

So Ah stood there behand it, and waited it. Ah figured, she'll forget about soon enough and then Ah'll go back and trah to eat more from Pipi's bowl or whatevah's there. Know what Ah mean?

Another Embarrassment

Aw mah, mah, oh-mah.. Mom was at it again yesterday mornin' and she almost ruined mah day. Ah thought everytin' was normal as usual, she was gettin' ready and awl to "go bye-bye" when she suddenly came at me with that dreaded whate cloth that smells a beet nasty. Before Ah knew it Ah was in her control. Again! So Ah gave up and figured, this awl is gonna go away soon.. Ah know it nevah gets too bad, so Ah'm gonna just trust her.

So we both stood there, Ah perched on the stehp in front of the "beddie-bye" with mom holding me bah mah front paws upright. Ah-huh... she's wantin' to clean mah paws, Ah see...

So Ah let her... But it didnt' end there. Mah nightmare was just beeginnin'... Naw she wanted to clearn mah back paws too... God dang it, Ah'm gonna flee naw... But naw, she's after me agin, awn and awn... She wouldn't geeve up. Ah finally relented and let her clean 'em. Ah even stretched them wide apart to make it easier on her. But then Pipi came down where we were and started staring .... Aw, that was just too muuuch.

As soon as she let me go Ah went after Pipi: "hey, what 'chu lookin' at? Huh?!!".. Ah made that girl run up the stairs on the double.

[Another rage transferrence... wish I would've brought 'Wooly-Zingy' down instead..]

That Special Thing

We were upstairs snoozing a few days ago when I sensed something new and different was going on with mom. I knew she was downstairs but I kept sensing something was different. I told Googie "Something's going on down there, I'm gonna go see". The vibe was definitely different. Of course Googie followed along, so we headed down the steps.

We stopped near the last step both of us. I had to stand there from my perched point of view to see what was mom doing?? I stretched my neck and stood still. Curiosity was killing me!

She was fumbling with some box on top of where I like to go jump on [kitchen counter]. I finally saw her hold something big in her hands, like a blanket... the thing I go on the "beddie-bye". It was a different color though, this thing was big and long... and had designs on it. Hmm... something was different here, I could tell. She kept looking at it and all and then reached for the "phone" thingy and started talking.

A day later, she put that big blanket thing over where we go near when she says she's "gonna go bye-bye" [the railing to downstairs]. A-hah! This is where I go check it out up-close now. Nose-to-blanket... hmmm... What a ..thing. Huh. (Stepped away to look at it from afar.) Googie followed suit right after me; why that silly boy actually crawled behind it he looked so silly! I knew better.

[Princess watched me open my sister's gift, a decorative throw blanket with a sisterly inscription across it.]

How Cat Talk Can Turn Offensive... :)

Well, okay.. it definitely looked like I really upset Gabriel's ...ah, perspective this afternoon. I'm laying in bed and he likes to walk over and stand over me, many times walking over to me to 'kiss' my face.

But just by making a slightly different pitch of a meow, it elicited an entirely unexpected response from him - and from Princess, who stood in the background looking alarmed.

What have I said in cat language? Not sure, but it was not good - it was alarming to both of them. I guess it was a very hostile message, something like "I'm gonna get you / get ready for a fight" kind of thing. Seeing his reaction, 'talking back' to me on the same pitch, both surprised me and got me laughing hysterically. And it was then when he seemed to get even more .. perturbed.

No-catbody likes to be made fun of either.

Losing Mah Deegnity (or, Gabriel Gets Smothered)

It was a quiate day tuday as Ah climbed on the bed (for the umptempth thayme) and Ah thought Ah would check on mom. Agin. She seemed awlright to me, just layin' there, lounging like a proper momma cat awght to. Ah hesitated a little 'cause Ah was steel sleepy. Next thang Ah knew, she starts to coax me over to her. Aw, okay... Ah'll go.. But nawt for long, now, okay? Ah'm a little tired.

'Dis is where it gawt weird: She actually eensisted! Ah tried to get away and Ah could feel a firm grip from her awn mah shoulders and suuuch... Then she tries her little female wiles, begging me to stay and awl. And Ah'm like.. just standing there, what could Ah do know what Ah mean? Her head was below mah chest, and Ah thawght Ah was in control. And then she starts making the 'cawl'... She's starting to make the battle-cry, the shrill sound. [Like when cats start to fight and they make the 'singing' meow? :)) ] Aww-mah-god. Whaaat?? Mah ears went back almost flat, and mah mood changed rather quickly. Naw, suddenly? Ah was gettin' maad... Ah responded back with mah own low-grade shrill - hey, Ah'll throw mah hat into the ring any day.

She started laughing. Uncontrollably. And Ah'm standing there, stuck , mand you, getting madder as hell bah the second. Even though her head was below me, Ah was actually in her grip. Ah had no choice.

Ah nevah thawght 'dis was goin' to happen.

'Dis waws just nawt MAH time of MAH choosin'. Ah was beeing made to stand there and be pawed at and now Ah'm beeing ... made fun of too.. This was just NAWT what Ah had in mand.

Ah gawt so pissed off, Ah avoided her for the next... well, 20 minutes.!

[Princess woke up from her snooze nearby as soon she heard the 'battle-cry' and straightened her neck out to watch intently ("What is mom doing? ")]
