PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Diet Dilemmas

BELLA'S BITS: I'm really no fool. When mom comes home, we show how much we love each other - but then, it must be off to the kitchen and dinner. If I don't get what I want, I will not let her lift me and pet me again, not in the kitchen. I will lead her right in front to the place where the food comes from. The other night, I wanted more .. So I came in the kitchen and she tried to ply me with some loving but I wouldn't have any of it - I stepped in front of the cupboards and started to bitch. Now, 'how does a cat stat to bitch?', you're gonna ask me. It's simple: I start to meow-growl, it's half meow, half growl.. And it just trails on like that, in a real nag.. It's quite clear I'm not happy, to say the least. Last night, she told me "You can't eat again, okay? Noooo... I'm sorry!! " I tried to negotiate my way into that second meal but after these words, I just trotted out of the kitchen growling to myself. It was no use and I knew it.

Not Good Enough

PRINCESS:

I heard mom calling for.Gabriel and I quickly walked in the bathroom where she was. Perky, I stopped and looked her in the eye, flinging my tail up in the air. "YOU'RE not Gabriel...", she said to my face.

I flicked my neck the other way at that and walked away.

Just can't believe it...I come in to see her but I'M not good enough.

Supervised Stealing...

LITTLE GETTY'S WORLD:

Mom lady served us tuna .. I waited as usual until all the others took their places at the bowls and then I moved in. I moved in on miss Princess's bowl first...she yielded away for me and I took a few chomps. Miss Bella sat down across from us and supervised. Then I moved in on daddy-Googie's bowl.. He stood nearby, watching over me.

I think she actually got the MOST food out of the whole thing!! OMG!

No Eyeball Zone

BELLA'S BITS:

Mom came home ...I sensed her from outside and I ran to the door and looked out the glass. I called out to her over and over as I saw her walking up. She opened the door and I nose tipped her leg and made way for her to come in like the house-frau that I am..

And then she noticed.

She noticed that 'baby Getty' was missing.. So when the rest of us assembled in the kitchen, we kept hearing: "WHERE is baby Getty?".. and none of us wanted to look her in the eye.

Miss Priss started eyeballing me every time she heard mom ask.. And I finally stepped out of the kitchen with my head down, avoiding eye contact with mom. "Did you DO something to her?", she asked. "WHAT did you do to her?!".. I tried my best to act like I wasn't noticing a thing right now...

[Remember, this is the cat with the biggest eyes trained right on me most of the time.. Especially when I come home. ]

To The Rescue

BELLA:

I heard one of those plaintive meows coming from downstairs just as I'm getting ready for bed. There is no mistaking Princess's sound when she's being roughhandled by Googie. Little Getty was up there with me, on the catbed and once we heard it she looked startled at me and then bolted away as I went down the stairs to break it up. I come down and see Googie on one end, Princess breaking away from him, and BELLA opposite Googie, standing there staring him down, literally sticking her neck out in a "what do you think you're doing" posture. Now that I was down with them, she ran for cover in the cabana ... just in case Googie got vindictive. But he didn't. He just wanted to play rough with "Pipi".. Sigh.

I crawled under the table again to reach out to Bella in the aftermath: "You're a GOOD cat, Bella" I told her, as she took refuge in the 'cabana'.

The Purring Committee

BELLA:

I greeted mom tonight as she opened the door, we went through our kiss-n-greet routine and she ran down to make the "beeping" thing in time. She didn't make it... I watched her fumble on it and then the loud sound came on for just a few moments. So she turned on the lights and I stood there in the middle of the room, I didn't run of course. I just kept looking upstairs a little ... well, alarmed.. My big eyes bigger but.. I got over it. She just told me it was "okay" - we all know that word by now. So I relaxed.

As she kept going in and out of the door bringing stuff in, Googie came down to join us. She finally closed the door and said hello to him, went through their usual routine. He doesn't kiss her the way I do, he plays it shy. He's a real spoiled momma's boy, he is.

As I sat further away on the floor, watching them, I started to purrr. What a cozy little scene, in spite of Googie..
