PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Embarrassing

I spent the day sleeping in my room today and mom came back in to check on me later. I was glad to see her, I meet her by the door when she opens it but I hesitate to run out - I watch for what she's gonna do and then I'll turn the other way and stall.

So she checked my room over, brought me my dinner. Then she put me on the bed to check my belly again.

Well, the door was open and Googie was standing out there, looking in curious as ever.

So here I am, with mom peering over my messed up belly, I'm spread-eagle paws all out in all directions, and she's putting something on me. While I let her do her thang, I craned my neck over to Googie's direction to look over and see if he was watching.

I really just can't be seen like this.

Checking Awn Pipi

This day has gone as weird as the day before.

Ah didn't get to see Pipi. I could only catch a whiff of her. She was behind that closed door still.

Mom "gonna go bye-bye", I saw her leave. And Pipi was just not around, she was out of my reach.

And so, when mom came home, Ah patiently and quietly joined in the checking awn Pipi. We went 'upstairs' together and Ah watched as she opened the door to go see her.

After a little while, mom tried to get us to see each other. She took Pipi in her hands and put her down right in front of me just so we could at least touch base with each other.

Well... Naw, AH'VE been told to "stop fighting", right? And so, Ah'm being really careful naw, NOT to do anythang ...untoward.

And so, Ah really didn't know what to do... Pipi was suddenly right there, in my face, but she was really lowering her face below mah chest... Ah could tale she wasn't exactly as she was bafawre she left for the 'doctor'.

And then Ah smelled her, the back of her head, as she presented herself to me... And Ah didn't know what to thank, it waus different ... and rather disagreeable.

--- But Ah held mahself in check. Mom was right there watching me.

Ah decided eet waus best to just walk away - in a clip. Instead of risk being told Ah'm "not nice" or whatevah...

Coming Home

I thought this was gonna be another ordinary day for me and Googie but I've got to hand it to mom, she really sneaked up on me. I didn't even have the faintest inkling what was about to happen. Well, except when I heard the sound of one of our boxes being opened up. When she came back upstairs, I did get this panicked look on my face, ready to bolt. But she acted SO casual? It really went over my head.

Next thing I know, she's carrying me downstairs nonchalantly, not saying a word. And then there I go, into my box..

I really didn't bother to cause a commotion, I mean I did hear the only words she said: "You're going to "the d-o-c-t-o-r"."

Next thing I know, I wake up totally confused .. looking around for a sign of mom.. She finally comes over and sticks her face down to mine to check me over. I was really quiet on our way home. And then I had to deal with Googie.. yuh..

I came to realize, slowly, that this was gonna be really all-about-me night. I got the big room, my water, my favorite food.. god, I was so hungry, I had to stop everything and eat!

Mom closed the door behind her every time and I figured, you know what? This is probably a good idea, I'm not gonna fight it. Now: let me just do my nails and clean up a little bit. God! my paws are dirty.

Trying to Understand..

Wale, as a cawntinuation of mah previous tell-tail:

Mom sure did come back later tuday, with Pipi in her box. Actually? come to think of it, it was my box but Ah wasn't gonna get awl uptight over that.. Ah mean, fane, Ah stood and stared a beet cawnfused bafawre Ah approached - but Ah had bigger fish to fry here.

"Pipi, honey, what's happened?", I asked as I stepped up to greet her nose-to-nose. It didn't matter that our faces were separated by this see-through thang.

"Googie, please.. I was at "the doctor's" and I don't really know what happened. I'm confused and don't feel so hot right now, okay? "

Ah didn't know what to make of it. Ah stood around watching for mom's next move, trahing to sort it all out. But Pipi wasn't let out of her box. Mom actually carried her, in her box, all the way upstairs to the 'beddie-bye- floor.

Ah followed up, well.. actually I led them both upstairs, as I knew somehow how this all was gonna play out. At first, Ah thought they were gonna go to mom's room, so Ah went in there and patiently waited to see what would happen next. But then Ah realized that mom took Pipi to 'our room' in the other direction.

And closed tha... door. On me.. So Ah couldn't get to Pipi...

Ah hesitantly skulked around nearbah Pipi's room... Trying to make contact, somehow.. Ah hesitated to even stick mah paw underneath the door, to tale you the truth.

And then mom would go in and out of Pipi's room several times, taling me in the process to 'leave her alone', to back off, to 'be careful!'.

So Ah parked it a few feet away - Ah was going to cooperate, Ah waus!

Until this last time mom came out of the room where Pipi was een? And she tried to corral me, to fenagle me to walk awn down the stairs. She was right behind me the whole time and Ah had no choice but to go down.

Until the fifth or sixth step. Ah figured, nawww! This is too much! Ah ain't gonna be forced to do somethang Ah don't wanna DO, awkay? !

HISSS!!!

Ah stood mah ground as Ah knew mom was right behand me. Ah stopped and stood there and let her know in no uncertain terms that Ah was unhappy about this - yes, Ah deeed hiss. But at least it wasn't in-her-face. She was overpowering me as it was, towering over me.

She backed off. Ah went back upstairs, still worried as hale about Pipi, and parked it again a few feet away.

Finally, mom comes up to me from the lower steps, in a submissive posture. She was facing me, below mah face, clinging on the steps below me: "Gabriel, it's okay. She went to "the d-o-c-t-o-r" and she's gonna be okay. But you can't fight - "NO FIGHTING", okay?", she explained in low tones to me.

Mah eyes shifted back towards Pipi's closed room as she talked, and back to her face again, as mah eyes were as big as ever. As soon as Ah heard those words, "no fighting", Ah understood. Ah stood up, stretched nonchalantly, taking it all in, and head-bonked her. Ah was ready to go 'downstairs' now with her, as she had previously insisted.

Ah understood.

[And so, he spent the rest of the evening literally by my side, next to the laptop.. Occassionally letting out big sighs.. Still.]

:))

Ah Wonder Whah...

Ah thank Ah may have meesed something tuday... 'dis mornin'.

It awl seemed all right at first, Ah mean Pipi and mom went about their usual thang this morning.

And then they both disappeared. Then mom came back a leetle while later. Ah hung around nearbah her but Ah couldn't find Pipi.

So Ah jumped on the table to be close to her, and Ah moved in closer to her face. Ah sensed something was wrong... Ah really was in no mood to shmooze up to her the way Ah usually do.

Ah was seeking answers.. Ah needed to read her. And Ah could tale she was worried about something.

Ah settled bah the corner of the table, trahing to figure it awl out. Ah let out a deep sigh.

Wait, maybe Pipi is downstairs. That's where Ah'll go to find her... [jumps down and walks downstairs].

Naw... she wasn't down there either.. Ah looked toward the kitchen as Ah came back up.. Then Ah went back up to face mom - eye to eye.

"She's at the "d-o-c-t-o-r's", honey... She'll come home soon, okay?", she said to me in a low, whisper of a voice.

Ah head-bonked her at that.

Blowing A Little Too Much Sunshine...

Mah day started with following mom down to the little room and parking it close bah to her.

Ah kept looking up at her, wanting to be even closer. So she finally picked me up and got me in her lap, hugged me real good. During these moments, Ah feel one with the whole universe with her.. It's just awesome.

So naw, after she put me down again, Ah was all puffed up and ready - Ah could take awn the world!

And what do Ah see? There's Pipi! Rolling on the floor, teasing and tempting me! Ah pounced in an instant. Ah wrestled her down on the floor, like she wasn't already, and started nipping her in the back of her neck.

She needed it.

"HEYYY!!!! ", Ah heard mom scream. "STOP IT!!"

Oooh, boy - she waus upset. Ah tried to act as casual as Ah could about it, while Pipi got back on her feet checking to see who mom was really mad at. Yuh, Ah guess it waus me.

But Ah can steel look cawnfused. Until Ah felt mom's finger poking mah butt: "YOU don't DO that, OKAY?!!"

Aw, allright, allright... Let me just saunter under the table and chair for naw... Wait 'teal she cooles off a beet.

Inspection Time

Googie and I were lounging as usual near mom tonight while she was busy again with The Thang (laptop).

Once she stepped away for a little while, I jumped right up on her chair. Googie had already been laying around next to her and The Thang so I had to see what was going on.

Huh... Nose-to-thing.. I can barely reach it, standing here on top of the chair. "Googie? what did you see? Anything?"

"You wouldn't understand these thangs, Pipi.. Ah sat here and helped her put her paws on top of these black thingies... This is just beyond your understanding.."

"Don't get so full of yourself Goog, okay? Just remember: I brought you in here, I showed you the whole house, I am the one!"

Oh, here she comes back now.. See now, I don't have to wait for her to tell me 'excuse me', Googie. I know she needs to sit back down! [jumps down]
