PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Bearing It

Mom came home tonaight and she waus especially glad to see me. She coo-cooed me and awl, and then fell on her knees where Ah was bah the lower steps to hug me.

Ah wasn't really sure Ah was ready for such a demoanstration so Ah braced mahself and got a little stiff as Ah stood there, motionless, while she hugged me and brushed her face across mine... and lingered.

Ah patiently stood there as the hugging lingered becoze Ah knew this is what mom needed to do... Eef she must hug me well then, let it be... Ah'll just stand there and let her, until it's awl over. Ah mean, Ah dawn't have to be eento it one hundred percent, awl the time.

You see, there are times when Ah'll go up to her awn the table, when Ah know she's beesy on the thang, and Ah'll be the one to demand her attention and drool awl over her.

So Ah'll let her take her liberties with me and smuther me awl over this time.

"What In the Hell?"

We had visitors this past Saturday for dinner and I knew that both Gabriel and Princess would go and hide, as usual, somewhere deep in my bedroom where they consider it safe.

Well, they haven't had to hide for that long before. The 'visitors' stayed for several hours in all and Gabriel got curious after a while and decided he was going to investigate - cautiously.

He came halfway down the stairs from the bedroom and stood there, behind the railing, to see who were these people talking awn and awn...so loudly. He seemed a little put off, of course, as this was clearly an unusual intrusion into his territory.

At some point, the male friend sitting next to me got up and went out to the deck for a smoke, along with another guest. Gabriel got even more curious, especially after hearing more commotion and laughter from that direction. Hesitantly, very cautiously, he took a few more steps down and began to slowly stretch his neck as far out as he could. He stood, suspended in that pose for a good while.

At that point, my other guest was watching him in delight, discovering how this cat has the ability to be so ... expressive in his behavior. And so, my guest took the liberty to interpret verbally what Gabriel was thinking:

"What in the HELL? " .....

:))))

[For those of you who are not yet familiar with Gabriel and his antics, this is a common theme with him.. I have taken video, trying to capture that look in his face, using my own voiceover "What in the hale?"... And so, this was now duplicated by a totally independent observer... ALL on their OWN! ]

A Cat Fit

Ah waus layin' nearbah mom this afternoon, right awn her bed with Pipi on the uther side.

Awl waus going well, as usual; we were awl happily bonding together, snoozing away. Naw, you awl know what a sturdy and easy going cat Ah can be. Ah mean, Ah dawn't even laike to be called "not nice" (!) Ah make the necessary adjustments.

But Ah have a very sensitive, ... jumpy side to mahself, too. Ah am very sensitive to sudden sights or noises, you see.

And Ah believe Ah SAW something. Something that was ameeess. Out of the corner of mah eye. Mom had her back to me, layin' in bed when 'dis happened.

Ah gawt SO startled, Ah couldn't thank straight. Mah immediate, eenstinctive reaction was to take cover. Take cover bah jumping directly awn mom, for good measure.

... Ah jumped right on her back, full force. Unfortunately, mah claws were also out, in their eeenstinctive state.

"Ahhh!!! What in the hell??!! ", Ah heard her say, startled herself. Ah then jumped right back to mah spot, embarrassed. There waus nuthing there, behand her but Ah kept looking, a little spooked for sure. And then Pipi rose from her sleeping position and looked right at me, standing nose to nose, trying to figure out what had happened. Ah looked over mom's wah, becoze that's where Ah thought Ah had seen somethin'.

Pipi decided it waus awl too much and jumped down from the bed altogether. But Ah remained, calmed down, while Ah had managed to spook mom herself...

...Totally embarrassing..

My Cat Has Good Taste

Gabriel has perched himself again on top of the coffee table close to the stereo and speaker as soon as I began playing an old album.

This cat has taste: He's listening to Jean Luke Ponty, "Imaginary Voyage".

Big Game

Mom came home tonaight and she brought in a whole bunch of those bags that Pipi's so scared of, they make that crunchy noise and awl. But she always stops at the last meenute because she realizes that her 'nummy num' is in there somewhere.

Anywah, mom went "upstairs" to the kitchen and got busy right away. Awl those bags were left down there, "downstairs".

And the door was left open to the forbidden place ... the place where mom always comes from, outsade. This waus mah chance. There was no way Pipi waus gonna hold me back, no warnin' she tried to tale me... Ah cawnvinced her to just stay bah the door to be the lookout.

So Ah ventured through the door to see what awl was out there, see what Ah could fand, what Ah could discover and explore. And explore Ah deed.. Ah found plenty. Ah found this dark thang just waiting for me to grab it with mah mouth, it pretty much looked to me laike it might've bean alive.

Next thang Ah know, mom is at the door [and I see his orange butt bobbing away at the back of the car in the -closed-garage].

Ah quickly disappeared from her sight, went the uther wah and then made it back to the door bafawre she could see me.

"Googie!! What did you DO?!!", Pipi urged me. "She's right there! She's gonna see you!" Ah turned around while still bah the door and mom was looking right at me. Ah still had mah big game in mah mouth and waus looking for a good place to plop it down when Ah realized that mom was after it too. Ah mean, the moment she saw me with the thang hanging from mah mouth, she wanted it so badly, she just charged at me and tried to get it!!

Aw, NO!! Nawwww! You ain't gonna git this out of mah mouth, it's MINE. She reached over at me again but Ah ran upstairs and out of her reach. Ah could hear her scream after me, yelling "NO! NO!", but Ah wouldn't have any. This thang? Was MINE, and nobody's gonna take it away from me. This is mah first big game.

Ah kept it dangling from mah mouth while evading mom's reach every time. Ah ran awl the way "upstairs", under the [desk], then ran to her room, and awl the while she'd be just within a leetle space within reach but Ah kept escaping.

Ah finally went downstairs under the big thang in the main room [under the dining table] for cover. And Ah ate it.

She came down just after Ah had finished it off. "WHAT did you DO?!!!.. Ahhhh!!! ", she screamed. Ah waus no longer so keen to escape her naw. Ah just bounced over to the kitchen and went to the corner and sat down. The deed was done and Ah waus just gonna get out of her way and face the music awl at once. "You're gonna get SICK!", she screamed at me.
That's awkay - just don't take mah big game away from me.

Ah hung out bah the kitchen floor like nuthing happened. And then when mom went to do whatever she does on the thang [computer], Ah decided Ah waus gonna make mah approach. But she flicked her head abruptly at me, and we made eye contact. Intense eye contact, Ah might admeet. Ah suddenly stopped mah stride, mah eyes got bigger, as Ah quickly studied her face. Nope, this is steel nawt a good time. Ah'm gonna gingerly pass on bah, and let 'er cool down a little more.

[He's now plopped on the other side of my laptop -- but is not trying to ingratiate himself by rubbing his face to mine like usual.]

[Gabriel forayed into the closed garage space while I still had groceries to bring in from the car and found an old brown crunchy leaf. I suppose I gave it more value by attempting to take it out of his mouth.]

Ah Don't Respond To Mindlessness

Ah waus layin' around on mom's bed the uther morning when Ah realized that something was ameess...

It seems she wanted something from me but Ah couldn't tale what it waus... Perturbed, Ah looked around me and flinched a little but Ah didn't budge.

Next thang Ah knew, mom starts tapping mah butt with a piece of those papers Ah see awl the time.. [a magazine]. "Come on!.. ", she kept saying. Well Ah beg your pardon.. Ah didn't know what it waus she wanted, steel. So Ah kept on mah spot.

"EXCUSE me", she intonated then.

Oh. Huh - Well, in that case Ah'll just get up and get awn mah way. That's awl you had to say.

-- Ah dawn't respond to mindless tactics like patting on my butt with a paper. Ah only understand "excuse me".

My Cat Likes Coldplay

Was playing the classic 2002 Coldplay album this evening while I was cooking and Gabriel, my male cat, decided he was going to climb on top of the living room coffee table - close to the music - to listen.

He almost never does that on his own unless I'm nearby, resting on the couch - which I haven't done for months.

Hmmm... and now, now that the music has stopped he keeps looking at the stereo... I guess, waiting for it to start again.

-- Excuse me while I go cater to his highness!!
