PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Playing it Cool

I followed mom around tonight just like any other night.

She was down by the table again for a long while so, Googie and I were hanging around near her. Well, actually, he tries to chase me away sometimes 'cause he likes to hog all of mom's attention. So I take that opportunity and go "upstairs" to mom's bed so I can have it all to myself.

But anyway, I emerged from my other place when I sensed her go 'upstairs'. So I appeared out of nowhere. She was doing stuff, going in and out of the really small area [closet], and so, I made myself all comfortable right on the bed. I picked just the right spot, right where the blanket met the "sheets". And I curled up.

Mom came out of the [closet] and saw me and suddenly? she had an outburst. She lifted her arms up in the air and went: "Awww!!!". Well, you know? I didn't flinch. I didn't jump neurotically down from the bed like I might have a while back. I just stayed in place as she came over and started to hug me.

My face was all covered up now with her hair and what not, as she kept me close to her, nuzzling me and coo-ing at me. I didn't resist or squirm or nothing.

You see, I watch Googie be cool like that.. and I take a lesson.

Stalking Mom

Mom was definitely not feeling good the other day. I watched her come down into the kitchen and followed her movements. When she looks like this, I try to keep far enough away so I don't get in her way.

Then I watched her go back up the steps, real slowly. I just couldn't believe it. I stood there, in the middle of the kitchen floor, craning my neck to watch her go upstairs... I was so worried about her... Normally, I'd be running up along side of her.. but I really didn't know what to do.

Later when she came down and sat by what Googie calls 'the thang', I approached carefully. I really didn't want to disturb her, and so I just climbed on top of the nearest chair under the table and stuck my face up the glass. So she could see me.

"Hi! I'm right here!", I looked straight at her wide-eyed.

Well.. she stopped what she was doing and looked back right at me, and smiled..

Mah Feelings...

Ah plopped down on mom's bed this morning as usual, knowing she was getting ready to 'go bye-bye', but then she plops down right next to me. So, awl of a sudden Ah'm the main focus here and Ah'm nawt so sure Ah laike that.

Mah feelings are cawnfleected.

Awn one hand, Ah laike the attention. You see, it makes me feel important. But on the uther hand? Pipi was watching. And that makes me feel ... well, Ah thank they call it a 'real pussy'..

And so, Ah stood there in place for a while, as mom kept hugging me and stroking me. Ah just stay there, never moving, letting her having her way with me. But mah eyes got awl big and dilated, and Ah looked over at Pipi to check to see what she thought.

Eventually, Ah decided that we had had enough of a love-in, so Ah stood up to assert mah position.

Mah Day

Ah woke up this morning to fand mom coming in to our room. Pipi had already gotten up to greet mom but Ah was quate groggy. As mom approached closer to me, Ah knew she wanted to touch me and Ah pre-emptively, Ah might say, recoiled to avoid getting smothered first thang in mah morning.

"Ooooh!! Okay, then! Excuse me!", Ah heard mom say, whale she was retreating.

Hey, you know? When Ah'm groggy, Ah'm groggy and Ah don't wanna be touched. But Ah know how to do it raight - and let 'er know bafawre hand. Ah mean, yesterday night it was a different scene - Ah was awl about staying in place as long as it took her to just keep hugging me. But Ah have mah limits and Ah make it clear.

Later on today, Ah watched mom shuffle through a bunch of papers. She actually threw down a whole bunch right in her room. Ah was in paper heaven. As soon as she walked away, Ah seized the moment and found a comfortable spot right on top of all those papers of hers. That's where Ah belonged, it seemed to me..

Checking Awn The Mood

So, awl's well here tonaight.. Mom came in on time, we had our dinner, everytin' going fane.

And then came the time for me to walk toward mom where she sat bah the thang again.

Ah came up near the table, stopped, and looked up at her. Our eyes connected, and Ah stood there in anticipation, wide-eyed, wondering what am Ah to do? Next?

"Nope? just stay down there", she said quickly. Aw, okay, then - Ah took a few steps forward to reach her bah her chair and get her to stroke mah head that way.

But Ah took the opportuniteh, when she wasn't looking right at me, to jump up on the table anywah..

"Stop it..!!", she whispered to me when Ah tried to put mah paws on the thang. Ah wanted to do what she was doing - place mah paws like she does hers.

[THIS? is becoming a real problem... he won't let me do my thing here on my laptop. But he takes the hint when I finally have to pick him up and put him down on the floor...]

Making Amends

Mom came in tonight and truth be told, she was kind of late.. But I didn't mind - as much as Googie. I mean, we're used to having her back earlier and so.. He really didn't appreciate it..

So she served us dinner and I just picked a little bit. I saw Googie climb up there to be with her, he didn't really wanna eat. But then, he jumped down all disgusted.

"Let's go 'downstairs' Pipi.. She's not gonna change, okay? I tried to distract her away from that thang but she's ignoring me."

So we went "downstairs" and took our usual posts. I climbed up on my favorite spot on top of the couch, close to the light. Goog settled nearby. But what do you know - mom starts calling for us.

She came down and looked at us and kept talking to us. "What are you doing down there? It's time to go to 'beddie-bye'! " I could tell she was ... well, disappointed? Then she turned and left and went back upstairs. Leaving us like that.

So, I decided I'll come up and pay her a good visit. I went right over to her and outstretched my body to reach her and held my paw up for her. "Hey, babyyy!", she said. We were allright, the two of us. So we kept this up for a while.

Goog? Not so much. He was still "downstairs", seething. Or just getting even.

:)

Tiffed

Ah watched mom come in tonaight perched on a couple of steps above Pipi.

Well, you know? She deed come in quate late. Ah wausn't havin' any of it.

Ah mean, you know.. She stretched out her hand to touch me and Ah flicked my head around to avoid her touch. That kand of thang.

Pipi wasn't so clear about that. Then she tried again with me 'upstairs' and Ah waus steeel so ticked off Ah just turned and walked the other way.

But when awl is said and duunne?? Ah can't wait any moare - Ah'll just jump on the table and vye for a share of her attention away from that shining thang [laptop]. When it awwll comes down to it, Ah'll git in there with the best of it, stick mah face right into hers and then some.

And then she touches me bah mah shoulders? Strokes mah head, and looks me in the eye? Up close-and-personal? And Ah have no choice, really, no recourse but to let it awl go at that point..
