PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Sounds of Dread

BIG BELLA:

"We got a lot of boom sounds here.. Everyone was worried and mom went and sat on the steps upstairs. I took a few steps from below to check on her, and she called out to me. I hurried up and got in front of her.

We could hear knocks on the windows and Baby was scared, that little minx didn't know what to do.. Goog pretended he was brave.. And Getty kept to herself downstairs - she didn't want us to see her bushed out tail while we all kept a circle around mom.

After a while, mom came downstairs and sat by the bottom steps. I came down, eager to check up on her again and take care of her: it was time to lick her forehead and let her know I'M here, no need to worry. "

A Headbonk In Forgiveness

PIPI'S POINT:
"It was my time to go up to her this early evening. I like to headbonk her about that time. I found her in the kitchen so I jumped up on the counter to be with her and show her my love. I twist and turn and keep headbonking her face and shoulder. My tail swings back and forth, it's something I just do.
Somehow, after our initial kisses, she got perturbed about me headbonking the Keurig machine too. She told me to stop doing that but I couldn't help myself. It was so close to her, I had to headbonk everything near her.
After my butt brushed against it one more time, she yelled at me and I got down, looking back all hurt with my ears flattening. She said she was sorry. And could she have a kiss-kiss. Yes, I was more than eager to make up.
I jumped back up to the counter and puckered up right up to her lips, nose tipping her. She SAID a kiss-kiss, right? "

All Bets Are Off

DEPUTY B-BIPPY:

"Daddy told me about this:

He said, "When mom is sleeping, all bets are off. If her hand lands on you, like on your face or wherever, you are not to strike back - she doesn't know what she's doing when her eyes are closed and you would be hurting her."

So I have been careful of this one rule. I oftentimes snuggle up to her when she sleeps, like up near her pillow and when she wakes up in the morning, she doesn't know I am there and her hand does land on me …

So… even though I may have a finger up my nose or in my ear, I don't move an inch, I don't flinch. I patiently stay put and just hope the moment goes away. "

Facing The Music - Or Not

KATIE KITTY: The Moment Before The Blowup

"I was trying to relax on mom's bed. To be near her. And what does she do? She comes over at me with the phone thing. Raising it in front of my face.

Well, it's WRONG!! It's just plain wrong! Playing with my feelings and calling out Bella's name...trying to get a reaction out of me with that phone in my face!
...
I rebelled, for once. I murmured my displeasure after shooting her a disappointed glare - and then I struck out ! I lunged at her hand and nipped it and then ran off.

As not to face the music. "

Love Transcends Disappointment

BIG BELLA & KATIE KITTY

"We may be disappointed that mom didn't give us wet noms when she came back home tonight but we're both close to her on her beddie now.

At first, when I saw Bella already by her side, snoring loudly and purring all at once, I couldn't take it - I jumped down disgusted.
...
But I came back. I heard mom call me and I found a different way to get closer to her, I'm parked over by her head on the next pillow.

Wouldn't miss it for the world, not even with big Bella snoring a whole symphony next to us. "

Flying Thingies and That Evil Laugh

"Ah don't lake what Ah heard tonate.

Ah watched momma done put away stuff in the kitchen from those bags, and suddenly, Ah don't know what or how it got to be, but she done started that laugh of hers.

AH know, no good can come outta that kand of laugh. Last few tames Ah heard her laugh like that, there were square thangies flying.
...
So at the first sound of momma giggling, Ah got spooked and scrammed out of tha keetchen. Ah ain't gonna be the middle of THAT.

She done ask me what's wrong and all and Ah kept hauling away until Ah got downstairs. That's okay mom, Ah ain't playing that game. "

Ambushing for Keeps

KATIE KITTY'S KAHOOTS

"I just kicked big Bella out of mom's bed. Literally.

My strategy was to sit on the floor and wait, and see what would happen. When mom slipped in bed and they both got comfy, I seized the moment: I jumped up right next to her, surprising the crap out of her. It was a hissing fit and a pattycake pawslap and I had the upper paw with the element of surprise - and down that big belly went.
...
Only thing is, when I cuddled up to mom, she said things I didn't like:

"She's got just as much right to be on this bed, you know...."

I disrupted that lecture by flicking myself out of bed, I was so pissed to hear THAT after all the trouble I went to. So I burst and twisted out of her cuddle and jumped down with my ears flat.
Now Bella has crawled under the bed...trying to make herself comfortable.

The Eager Cat

DEPUTY B-BIPPY: I'm Game !

"Mom called me from where she sat - and I suddenly galloped toward her across the room soon as I knew I was wanted.

I was so excited, I jumped and hopped as I went along. Dey say that's more like a dog but I don't know about that.
...
I just like to sway and swing my body from side to side too. Like I'm in the hoooood. "

The Backup Cat

PIPI'S POINT:

"I heard mom asking Goog for a "kiss-kiss" and after the umpteenth time of hearing it, I lost my patience and called out to her:

"I'm here !! I'LL give you a kiss-kiss!", I squealed in excitement as I prepared my back legs for a jump up next to her.
...
I landed on top of the couch next to her shoulder, twisted my neck down and leaned over to nose-tip her. I made sure this was a thorough greeting of a "kiss-kiss". "

Standing on a Prayer

"Ah am sitting next to mom on the beddie and Ah noticed her sitting straight up. She then held both her hands together, her fingers touching...

And she started talking out loud. Ah heard thangs, a name, that sounded important, and Ah sat up and stood next to her bah her side.

Ah wanted to be there and help along. "

A Time To Let Go - and Sniff

BIG BELLA'S BITS

"Nowadays, I'm on good terms with miss-Prissy. I haven't even lost my temper with her for quite a while.

Why, just yesterday I took the time to sniff her. This is something I would never have done three or four years ago, I'm not one to be literally brown-nosing. But I thought, here is a cat who's got quite the story, she's reminded me all these years how long she's been with mom, and how she used to be in this house before...
...
I decided I was going to respect that - and once and for all I deigned to do the honors and sniff away. "
