PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

T'was A Treasure Trove

DEPUTY BABY G
"I got into a treasure trove of goodies the other day. See, mom had left her bathroom door open. And she was nowhere around. Everyone else was near her downstairs so this was my big chance to catch up with all the toys in there without anyone telling me I can't and getting in my way.
I went for the bags. Yeh, I like to stick my snout into bags and places and go bobbing for loot. And I found plenty of it, stuff like those white little sticks, and deeze little squares, and deeze other blue tubie thingies. You name it, I found it. And bopped it around all over the floor ! Yeh!
By the time mom discovered all this, I was long gone."

That Kind of Walk Ain't Right

LITTLE GETTY:

"That mom lady came down again half asleep and disturbed my peace.
She came at me like a zombie holding her arms up straight and I hissed and ran. And then she started giggling. "

Little Getty may not have seen the Frankenstein movies - but she knows that kind of walk ain't right.

Upon Invitation

GOOGIE:

"Ah have invited big Bella to hang out with us now. She's no longer retiring bah herself up in her room, she hangs out with us.

Just now, she's jumped on the couch making biscuits on the blanket - with her butt close to the edge. So Ah came by to sniff it. It's our,way of reassuring each other, paying our proper respect.

Awe, see now.. Miss Katie Kitty just passed bah and did her own sniffing of Bella's tail. She follows mah lead,.see. "

Asked To Leave The Premises...

BIG BELLA:

"I was asked to leave the premises... mom's bathroom. She always does that at the end of the night but that's just not MY timeline. I'M not ready. So she has to cajole and corral me out and I'll let out an outburst. Or two. While I waddle my way out reluctantly, knowing that I'll have to pass kinky Katie Kitty who's always waiting by the door.

So I'll cross the threshold out the bathroom and turn my neck and look at the little shrew for good measure. And this night, I'll continue to walk toward the door, when I see the beddie... That's where the minx goes and sleeps. So I hesitate once more, muster my nerve up to pass...

"You just passed her! She's behind you now! ", I hear mom say. Yeah, I know, I know. But a cat can never be too careful. "

Standing for a Reason

DEPUTY BABY G:

"Daddy taught me... He taught me to stand in place when mom comes over and hugs me. And so, tonight, I did. I realized when she reached out to me while I was crying at the kitchen counter, that this was a moment. It was our moment to stand together and so, I stood motionless, just like daddy, and I let her have me.

I also quit using the water bowl as my bath bowl, too.."

I Missed Something

GOOGIE:

Ah was inconvenienced today in the middle of mah sleep. Doggone strangers came into mah house, at least one of them anyway. Came traipsing in upstairs but he wouldn't have ANY of me, Ah ran and hid in the closet like the rest of mah brood. Well.. except big Bella.. and Ah don't know what happened to the others to tail you the truth. We leave it all to the big girl to take care of these thangs since she's made it a point to tale me that she's used to many strangers, she lived in "New York".
Ah purrsonally can't trust strangers, Ah have an instant distrust of them seence mah early kitten days.. bawfawre momma done bring me to mah home. There were a bunch of burly strangers that had come into mah first home and Ah was a tiny little baby .. and Ah heard cries and screaming.. But Ah digress.
Ah could finally sense the stranger had left, so Ah came out of the closet so to speak.. And faced mom who was looking right at me but said nothing. It was tame for a snack after all this stress so Ah went down to the kitchen with her and leaned into mah water bowl for a drink when Ah suddenly realized Ah missed somethang: Ah turned around from mah water bowl and looked up at the ceiling to fand this big hole where it wasn't there bafawre.
Dat stranger came in and DID that!! And AH took it upon mahself to look it over when all was said and done.

I Kissed A Diva - And I Liked It

GOOGIE:

Ah was manding mah own beesiness, waitin' for mom to serve us our dinner. Mah brood, they all get excited over this.. They start circling around the bowls, looking up at mom, Bella especially starts meowing at her.. it's kind of sad how Ah see her begging every tame. And Ah just stand back and watch it all happen, Ah know mah plate will be full soon, there is no need for fussing.
And then it happened. In her haste and eagerness to get to her meal, Bella turned her head and suddenly she was face-to-face with me. Ah stood there, calm and collected and regarded her furr face. Ah had nevah been so close to her bafawre.
And then she leaned in and ...nose-tipped me.
"Goog?!", she said anxiously with her huge eyes. "ARE we going to get our wet noms tonight? What do you think big boy?!". She was begging... Even me.
"Yes, Bella. We will get it, don't worry", Ah reassured her. And then she turned again toward mom - and now Ah was staring at her butt. Maght as well kiss it - or sniff it at that point. The whole nosetip thang got me interested..

A Bad-Rep Grooming

THE ENIGMATIC MISS PIPI

"I may not be the best of friends with miss Bella. However: it does not mean that I will ignore her if I sense that she is unhappy or suffering in some way.

Like the other day: Mom was doing something to her she didn't like, I wasn't quite sure what it was but she was following her around the kitchen trying to groom her I guess, and Bella was having none of it.   So Bella was meowing in protest and at times growling.

At some point I just quit my meandering around and stopped dead in my tracks, one paw extended in front of the other and turned my neck and stared at mom. I was concerned. Was she turning into a ...CAT tormentor? Should we be concerned? I stared her deep in the eye. I have already been filled with stories from little Getty about their clashes.. and now, I am never quite sure. Maybe mom is changing.

"I am JUST trying to c-l-e-a-n her, honey! I'm NOT doing anything to her...", she looked back at me and explained.

I see. I thought about that for a second and decided it was time to snap out of my frozen position. We are all a cat village here you know. We look out for each other. "

Petting - Interrupted!

GOOGIE'S GRITS:
"Ah am a little taken aback, eef not meeffed, bah tha fact that when momma done comes ovah to me to pet me, we get a trail of others trying to interfere.
Mah Deputy is compelled to stick his snout in the middle of it all, every tame momma done reach ovah with her hand on me to stroke mah head or what not. .. And Ah act nonchalant, Ah let him get between us... He just has to have his loving at the same tame AH do.
And this evening, as Ah was holding court in her power chair, she done come ovah to me again to check on me, pet me and talk to me - and that big Bella comes out of nowhere and pushes her head up momma's hand. SHE had to get mom's attention just because AH was gitting mah loving.. Ah, once again, held mah decorum - no fuss, no muss. "
