PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Not My Toy

DEPUTY BABY G:
"I keep hearing this same phrase lately. Like when I tried to play with some new tings mom left on those steps again. Dey weren't "eggs" but they were just as interesting.. Dees round ting again was begging for my pawing.. Knocked it off once just to watch it tumble down the steps. And in she swoops down on me:
"It's NOT your TOY!", she said loudly to me.. I had to make a decision: keep watch over my new toy and batt it some more - or take heed of these words.
I scurried up a couple steps just to be on eye level with her.
"NOT your toy", she repeated. I looked at her in acknowledgement and layed down on the step. Okay, mum. I won't. Cause I'm a good boy. "

Absent Minded

KATIE KITTY'S KAHOOTS:
"I have a distaste of mom's pawing me first thing in the morning..
See, I sleep right up against her hip and when she wakes up in the morning.. Well, she's not really up to her wits yet.. and so, her paw just flails around my head and stuff, like ..she doesn't know which end is up. She just wants to touch me. But I don't wanna be touched in this absent-minded way. It's distasteful.
So I quickly get the hell outta her reach and scoot on over to the the foot of the bed. I'm not some toy to be grappled with. "

Zen Intercept

GABRIEL:

"Ah did a two-step this morning.
Ah had just finished mah breakfast in the kitchen when Ah deemed it a fane tame to walk on outta there but Ah hadn't counted big Bella in mah plans.. Ah had to pass her bah.  And mah natural Zen cattitude got a bit perturbed. It did not feel safe just passing through. Ah had to look back.
Ah had to look back one, two - three tames.  And on the third tame, Ah began to gallop in-place like a horse and picked up speed and got outta there.  Fast.
She done sat there and just stared at me. "

The Roaring Monster

BELLA'S BITS:

I'm the brave one as always. When mom fights with the roaring monster wrapped around her hand, I'm the only one on the lookout, everybody else heads for the hills and hides; well, except my recruit, the deputy.
And she really did fight with it all evening, it was pushing her around from room to room and up the stairs. I went to bed in my room when I heard the darn thing again. I felt it was my duty to get up from my sleep and go check on mom again in her room.
At the expense of my dignity. Coming out meant getting slapped and my furr in a knot passing by the Katie kube. "

A Moment With Grandma

DEPUTY BABY G:
"I had a moment with grandma Bella when I lowered my head in front of her. I was hoping she would lick it but she didn't ... She just looked at me.
Everyone else in my family licks me when I offer them my submission like that. I'm the baby, right? Miss Pippi takes care of me like that, miss Katie does too... Well, once in a long while. And always Daddy.
I'm just glad I was able to have this moment with miss Bella though... Nobody else gets that close to her. I think that's why she didn't know what to do when I nuzzled my head under her face. "

A Kinder Hunt

DEPUTY BABY G:
"I love to chase, hunt, and jump. I get my prey, I don't care if mom calls it a toy. My instincts are strong in spite of my balls being cut off. But when grandma miss Bella takes the floor? I sit back and wait. As long as it takes.
Grandma Bella has first-rights to the furr tail prey, and no matter how high it flies, how much it may tease me, I do not give in to temptation nor my hunting instinct during dat time when miss Bella has taken over.
I've had good breedin and schooling. Daddy has taught me to respect my elders.
Besides: I would rather wait than get power-slapped or worse yet, nipped at all over, kamikaze style. "

Superior Heights

KATIE KITTY'S KAHOOTS
"I messed with bully-Baby's head tonight. I climbed on top of the high thing again, the one mom calls the "wall system". I'm the only one who can do this. Paws down. And I got busy up there and pawed around this little thing and dropped it to the floor and got their attention.. I had them all mesmerized with it. And then Baby noticed me up there, he kept eyeing his way to a jump - but he never mustered it! I leaned my head over from my high perch to stare at him the whole time:
"You think you're so tough, you little ding-dong? You can't even make it up here.. for all your chasing and jumping around.
He kept staring back at me, looking up to my level.. I thought he'd get his neck in a knot!
I milked this moment for as long as I could gloat. Until I realized I'd have to jump down myself...."

Kamikaze Kommotion

GOOGIE'S GRITS
"We all sat up startled, catching the commotion in the kitchen. Somepawdy was going apeshit in there and we weren't sure who. Was it little Getty ?
Sure enough, Ah ascertained, it was none other than big Bella. She done gone kamikazeh on the rug in there, jumping on it and then slidin across...has she no shame. Big bellied grandma done gone krazeh..
Ah just watched from afar in the safety of mah chair as Ah stretched mah neck out, suspended like that in deesbelieef of this travesteh.
Mah deputy ran in there like a fire drill all ready to spring in action, bending all fours toward the floor with his butt and tail up in the air.
"Grandma! I'M here ! Who do Ah chase??! "
That's mah boy... He knew to be of service but not get foolish and jump into the fray himself, he stood bah the sidelines while big Bella done gone kamikaze.
"Hold onto your nickers boy! ", she done took off out of the kitchen and flew up the steps with the same gusto she dove on the rug. "

Daddy Told Me Not To Come

DEPUTY BABY G:

"I'm sorry but... I'm not gonna do the nose-tip kissy-kissy thing with miss Getty.. Cause miss Getty is a wild card and I don't know what to expect from her.  Half the times, when I try to approach her, she either slaps me or hisses or growls.   And now she wants to nose-tip?  I don't think so.

I recoiled backwards in hesitation and left it at that.  Daddy told me not to be rude to miss Getty. "
