PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Proper Kitchen Protocol

DEPUTY BABY G:

"Since I have been properly anointed now by my daddy, I know the right kitchen protocol. When I enter the kitchen and see mom dere, I first brush by her legs before going to the bowls for my meal.

I seen grandma big Bella do dat all da time too. Miss Katie does it! And so now I thank mom properly before diving into my noms. "

Love Me Now

BABY G:

"I have buried the hatchet with that mean babysitter of mine, miss Katie, and have relented. Just the other morning when I followed mom into her small room in the morning, I turned and saw her. She wanted mom's attention too but I didn't chase her out. I lowered my head under her chin for some loving - I wanted HER attention now.

She couldn't resist me, she gave me a few licks on my forehead. And then lifted her her paw up and tapped me a couple on my cheek, I guess she had to remind me that I should watch it. "

An Adventure in Lockup

DEPUTY BABY G:

"I saw mom open the door to this other room and I quickly seized the moment and whizzed in. This is a place that we don't get to stay at much cause she don't come in here often. So I got busy putting my nose to this and that...So many toys to tinker with in here. And then I realized she was no longer around and went to leave....But I couldn't!! I found the door closed !

Well - there must be a reason for it, I'm sure. I know she always protects me and feeds me ...and makes me feel good, so I didn't freak out. I figured, she must need me in this room for a little while, so I got busy. There was so much to explore in here.

I dove into all the papers, climbed under dees big thing full of more papers, sorted stuff out...like I see her do. I was careful though not to climb on her skins... She got some skins in there and both Daddy and miss Pipi have warned me those are her things that can't be touched or she'll be reeely mad.

So after a little while I ran out of tings to do....and still, I couldn't get out. I started to plead and beg: " Meeeeeh!! Mom please ! Can you open up?? "... Nobody answered, nobody came.. I tried to open up the door...And I did! I did ! But ....I still couldn't get out. It was the wrong door. I opened it and ran into all kinds of tings, like more paper stuff.

I pleaded and squealed some more, I could no longer understand WHY did she want me to stay in this room by myself.. Did I not do someting right? And then I sniffed miss Katie from the other side of the door.

"You okay in there, little buddy?", she asked. "Just be patient.." And then I sniffed mom coming up and the door finally opened !!

"BABY! I didn't know you were IN here ! .....Uh...Oh NOOOO! "....She took a look at the other door I had opened. "

Almost

BELLA'S BITS:

"It was bound to happen.

I was downstairs doing my greeting duty with mom coming back in, doing my rounds.. circling around her.  And as I turned, I came face to face with big Goog.  I hadn't anticipated that.  We both stood there for a minute, regarding each other, not knowing what to do..not moving at all.   Should I nose-tip him?  Did he lean in toward me?  It almost looked like he would.

I didn't hiss.  But it did feel quit awkward.  Why would I nose-tip Googie, really?  He acknowledged me and finally moved past me, and the moment was gone.

But it was so close. "

Eat Your Lunch

DEPUTY BABY G

"So like.. dere eeez deees blue square thingy on top up where we're not allowed to go in the noms room... And I waited, we all waited for mom to give us noms but.. it was all reeely low on all our bowls. So I've seen mom put her own noms inside dat blue square and I jumped up and got it and took it down on the floor.

I figured, I'M gonna go for HER noms if our bowls are that low ! "

A Special Visit

BELLA'S BITS:

"I have taken the time out the past couple of evenings to pay a special visit with miss Princess.   I have felt that it is time to mend fences and so, I take the opportunity to approach her while she's sitting by the middle of the floor.  She goes there at a certain time every evening, after our meal, and holds court at the center of the blue flowery rug.

I approached slowly and plopped myself down, facing her with a certain resolve in my demeanor.  I wanted to show her that we could talk things over, have some kind of understanding between us and make some final peace.   So I was patient, sitting across from her and having that one-on-one.

"The time will come, Princess, that you will have to take over for me, you know... ",  I began my thoughts to her.

"Excuse me?  That I "will take over"?  Let me tell you something, Bella:  I'VE been here long before you arrived, dear.  That is what you do not seem to understand.  I KNOW mom long before you ever met her.. "

"Maybe so.. but I know how to take care of her in a way you don't.. like the way I check her face when she comes back home and make sure she's okay.. the way I groom her.  I never see you do these kinds of things, Princess - and I wouldn't expect you to because you just don't know..   But I'm getting older.. And I won't always be there.

I won't always be there to rescue Googie from his accidents.. like the time he got his claws stuck and couldn't get them out.. I won't always be there to help you out when you're running away scared for no reason, just because you heard a knock on the door.  So I would like to teach you womancat to womancat.  Cause there are certain things that little Baby just can't understand."

"I do not need to be taught anything, Miss Bella... I am way ahead of you dear.. Besides:  You don't even give her the massages I know how to do.  And everybody comes to ME anyway.. I've got deputy-Baby at the palm of my paws, I've got Goog in my pocket, I've got Getty my little sister, and I've got Katie under control and her respect.  "

With that, she got up and walked away.   I tried again the next evening.  I am a patient womancat.. And I will keep trying.  "
