PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

The One Cue

I watch all the krazies running around and I don't even bother to intervene anymore. Only when the screaming reaches a certain high pitch will I approach holding my face in a certain foreboding or shocked expression, hoping it will stop the offender on their tracks.

That's because I am resigned to the fact that they are all krazy. Like today, that big Goog ran around on rampage half the time, scruffing miss Priss, chasing little Getty and trying to pick a fight with kooky Katie herself.   I can't be running around trying to stop them, no thank you; I am not in a mood to be bullied by the likes of HIM.

Oh, and well.. Did I mention? I too was cornered up against the wall by him today.. I really don't know what I would do without mom around..

It all came down to a snorting level. Soon as she heard him snort like a bull she came out running into the room like that was her one cue.

Keeping Tabs

BABY G:

"It don't matter to me if I'm in a deep sleep. Like I was on the beddie here in the big room. I sensed mommy get up from her chair next to me and go downstairs and up I went and followed her - and promptly!

I cannot let her out of my sight, really.

MY understanding really is: my daddy is my daddy, and SHE is my real mommy, in spite dat she don't have any furr on her. DAT eez what I feel.. So I can't be too far away from her. "

A Little Misunderstanding

LITTLE GETTY'S WORLD:

"I got chased by Daddy.. See, I was just trying to avoid conflict by running up the steps .. I heard a commotion in the kitchen, mom lady telling him to "stop it", and miss Pipi running away from him.. Daddy likes to scruff her, see. So I just wanted to run away from it all , seek solace in the upstairs room, and he saw me running and came after me. Mom lady went after HIM then, she saw him stalking me, bending his neck down to see if he could find me under the bed.. He can't fit under there.

Anyway, it is all past us now, we are together side by side again. Daddy just ...has his moments. "

Not Allowed!

KATIE KITTY'S KAHOOTS: "Not Allowed! "

It was time for mom to go to "beddie bye" and I had already been escorted out with my tail up in the air. I get it, I understand it - and so, when she comes over to me I just get up from my spot and walk out the door with my pride intact.

But then, as I lurked around in the hallway, Baby had to bumble about heading straight for mom's room.

"Bhap! Bhap!! Stay here you nimb-wit! You're not allowed to go in there! ", I reached over and blocked him with my paw.

"Okay, okay! Katie! ! I was just.. trying to say goodnight! ", he stopped and sat on the spot. "

I Have My Own Room, Thank You

BELLA'S BITS:

"Every night, I beat them all to it. I head on upstairs when nopawdy is watching, while mom and them are still down in the living room. Everyone lays in a circle nearby her and I sneak gingerly up the steps to make it up on her bed.

I wait patiently and fall asleep right on her spot up there. I take my place so that I will have my quality time with her before the day is over. And so she joins me, and I wake up from my blissful snooze and give her my nightly facial while purring.

And when the time comes, I can escort my own self out, no need for her to carry me out like a baby. Because I am not a baby, and I won't let her treat me like one... I gently avoid her lifting me up from the bed, I get the message and I walk out on my own, thank you. I have my very own room to go to. "

Help Me Mom-Lady!

LITTLE GETTY'S WORLD:

"I just couldn't stand that Baby chasing me around and pestering me. I ran into the kitchen looking for mom lady's help! I looked quite disheveled with my ears every which way and stood there looking at her, pleading.

"Stop it! stop it!", she turned and told Baby once she took one look at me. I blinked my eyes back at her in gratitude.

Now it was time to do MY part without feeling guilty: I ventured back to my area, slapping him as I went. "

Love Me, Please - Love Me

BABY G:

"I like to get reassurance now and then. I came out of mommy's small room just in time to see miss Pipi and I stood in front of her. I lowered my head down, ready for her to lick the top of it between my ears.

I beg for love, sometimes.. But she seemed a little .. hesitant just then. Next thing I knew, big mommy scooped me up and held me close to her up on her chest...

And den? SHE started grooming the top of my head.. I tink.. well I don't know, I've been told she don't lick furr the way we do but.. I'm pretty sure she groomed me properly.. It felt gooood. "

Portrait Of A Failed Romance

GOOGIE'S LAMENTATIONS:

Ah had hagh hopes. When she came in, Ah thought SHE would be the one.. The one Ah could mate with and live happily evah after. Because you see, Pipi is too close to me like family, she's like a relative.. like a sister.

And so, Ah thought she was mah destined mate.. Especially the way she shimmied around and held her butt up in the air and cried out for lauuuve. Ah knew those were the signs..

She even begged me to lauuuve her.. She deeed. And Ah was more than willing to oblage as we settled 'under the boardwalk' ...well, under the dining room chairs anyway..

But nothing came of it.. She didn't have any babies .. And she lost interest in me, just like that. Every tame she passed me bah, Ah looked at her longingly, mah hopes were still lingering.. But she would turn away and leave..

One day, as Ah tried once moare, she looked at me with krazy-eyes and snapped: "YOU couldn't make it happen! There's something wrong with YOU, otherwise I would have had babies again! Like last time I did! And I lost them! And I was hoping that YOU would give me babies - and you can't!! "

Ah knew then.. Ah knew it was ovah for both of us.. What can Ah tale her after that?

I Wanted To Fit

BELLA'S BITS: "I WANTED TO FIT"

"Sometimes, I want to feel young again. Yes, that's right. So I dived into the box, the big one out by the living room where Baby keeps diving in too. I wanted to shimmy and wiggle among the papers in there, I wanted to hear the crunch, I wanted to fit !!

And then I got called out by Baby.. He came and peered over, looking at me impatiently: "Miss? What are you doing in my box?", he whined.

"Shhhh! You're cramping my style, youn'un!!", I hissed as I lowered my head like a pancake under the flaps of the box. And then I heard mom laughing. Laughing at ME.

I quickly jumped out of the box and trotted over to her with my head down and my tail low.. I was so embarrassed. "Awww! It's okay Bella.. you like to play?!", she soothed my pride as I parked it near her for comfort. "

In The Name of Friendship

LITTLE GETTY'S WORLD:

"You know, I just got tired of watching that Baby hassle my friend, miss Pipi. Dammit, I may be minding my own business most of the time but THIS time I jumped out of the shadows and entered the rodeo. I lunged out toward Baby and gave him a good push just as he was in progress of the chase.. MY friend right ahead of him, running away toward the kitchen.

"Hah! YOU stay there, you little tyke and know your place!", I looked at him after I knocked the wind out of him. I then gingerly trotted toward the kitchen to join my sister, miss Pipi."
