PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Putting My Paw Down

PIPI'S POINT:

"I got thunderpawed the first go-round but I stood my ground. Tonite, I made it a point to nestle myself between mom's legs, laying in wait. I knew eventually she would come up here cause that's where she spends the night - and she thinks she's the only one snow can sleep next to mom. Well, no.

So I survived a Kamikaze Katie. I paw patty-caked back and hissed twice at her: "I'm not leaving you fool, so just settle down. How dare you."

And settle down she did. Next to mom's upper leg there, like a baby that she is. "

The Real Deal

LITTLE GETTY'S WORLD:

"I may get into tiffs with mom, and I do talk back, having my voice in it all... BUT - when the doorbell rings, when some scary stranger knocks on the door loud and hard.. I'M the only one who stays behind. "

An Intervention

KATIE KITTY'S KAHOOTS:

"Little Getty got in an argument with mom this morning.

Yes, yes.. I saw it.. At first, Getty was on the pink beddie. But then mom started saying good morning to her and that little psycho just jumped off and ran under the table. So mom walked toward her and started saying things like 'well excuse ME baby Getty!!'. And then Little Getty talked back and meowed at her, in this shrill 'why me?!!' voice..

I stepped in between them to headbonk mom's hand. "It's okay, mom.. Just ignore her, she's got.. issues. "

Too Much PDA

BELLA'S BEEF:

" I took up my usual spot by my scratchpost tonight, at the usual time. This is where I relax, and everybody knows they are not to be too close to me. They all got their spots anyway. Well, I figured if Googie wanted to lay by the railing nearby, it'd be okay.   But then who do I see sauntering over but little Getty. Without any sign of respect to ME, she just hops on over to him and starts leaning right on his belly. I lifted my head up higher as I lounged on my post, looking at this offending scene.

She continued her antics, now she was starting to lick his head and groom every bit of furr on his face. Next thing you know, she was pressing her snout deep into his face (!)

I had had enough. After staring down at them, hoping they'd get my meaning and go away, I sat up and walked up the stairs. It was time to disappear up to my bedroom quarters.. Not even mom's calling made me come back, I was that disgusted. "

What's That Thing On Your Neck?

PIPI'S POINT:

"I was coming out of the kitchen when my eyes fell upon Bella at her usual spot. But.. she had a.. pink thingie around her neck. What in tha... I stopped in my tracks and stared, concerned.

"Bella what IS that thing around your neck, dear? ", I looked at her for the longest time, not even moving, waiting for an answer. Katie Kitty stood by my side, waiting to see too. And so was Getty, looking on from further out, they all were staring all of a sudden.

"It's .. nothing.. Why are you so concerned? ", Bella lowered her head a little.. I could tell she was kind of embarrassed with all the sudden attention. She finally stood up and walked way. "

A Calling..

BELLA'S BEEF:

" I went downstairs again just now to cry to get out. I let out a couple of deep guttural meows to make my point, standing right next to the door. 'Please catgod! Please! Let me OUT!"

After a bit, I gave up and went back up to be with mom, jumping on the counter here and licking her hand hello. "

In The Dark

BELLA'S BITS:

"Well.. I tried. I bided my time, watching mom coming in from the garage, carrying the bags.. The light on the big thing was on. So I knew she could see. And I lurked by the door, on the inside the whole time. But the moment she turned off the lights and it got all dark, I seized my opportunity. I quietly stepped outside the door and into the garage to continue my exploring from yesterday. I thought she couldn't see in the dark.. But she saw me and started screaming.. Dang, I had to rush back to placate her after it became obvious she... COULD see in the dark after all. "

Little Pink Thingy

GOOGIE:

Dis little pink thingy here ? Oh yeh, Ah had it carefully placed on top of the table. It seemed to belong there with the rest of the stuuuuff.

Kook 'n Scruples

KATIE KITTY'S KOOKY KAHOOTS:

" I just couldn't stand it tonight.. I saw that little psycho Getty hissing and running away from mom and I had to chase her on the double! I was ON her tail as fast as l could, running up the stairs! "How dare you!! What's wrong with you?? ", I wanted to know. Soon after, I would come down the steps again and go up to mom to check on her. "

Pumped Up Strategy

 KATIE KITTY'S KAMIKAZE:

"When mom came home I pumped up my strategy. Every time she goes to lay on the couch, I see miss Princess go up on her lap to give her her massage. Well, I wasn't gonna let that happen. So I did my pre-emptive hop-'n-chase: I chased Princess all over the living room floor as she was coming out of the bathroom cause I knew she was headed straight to mom.

"NO, NO - NO!! ", I charged and pounced, both of us tumbling a full circle upside down and back. I didn't care if she hissed me into next month, the point is? She was now too pissed off to go give a massage! Hah!! "

Close Enough?

KATIE KITTY:

"I've been told not to lay on the "sheets". This is close enough, isn't it ?"

High-Brow

BELLA: " I took my nightly post, climbed up on top of the couch. It was time to give mom her evening grooming. "

~ I get a better eyebrow shaping from Bella than I do from the local threading professionals, literally. MOL!!

No Monkey Business

BELLA:

" I do not take scraps, ma'am... I don't care if you call 'em "treats". I'm no monkey. "

Flat As A Pancake

LITTLE GETTY'S WORLD:

"So like, when I see that krazy Katie do a kamikaze towards me, I take my position: I run over to the beddie on da floor and flatten myself like a pancake, ears and all. I figured, it's my shelter..

My instinct is, as long as I flatten myself I'll be safe. "

[Getty will quickly trott over to the catbed soon as she sees Katie Kamikaze gather steam! ]

Primping Is Private!

BELLA:

"I got so pissed off just now.. First of all, I was pissed all morning long cause we didn't get our wet nummy-num till much later.. And then, after I had to fight and growl for my seconds, I walked over to my post to lick my paws and mom followed me fussing over my new bling collar she put on me. Okay: I DID purr after she put it on and fussed over it, that may be true. But here she was now again, fussing over me at my power spot. I stood there patiently letting her, waiting to clean my paws afterwards.. But that kooky Katie started approaching with that inquisitive stare of hers, looking right at mom treating me like I was a ninny!

I couldn't take it any more - I quickly flicked my neck the other way and bolted in one leap outta there, scrambling down the steps outta sight!! "
