PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

The Ghost Fly

Well what do ya know: Just as I was ready to pack it up for the night and go 'upstairs', I began to notice that Princess started to suddenly sit up from her snooze position.

I noticed she began to focus and stare at something at the wall to my left. (Church bell) - OH! It's that ...FLY! .. And it's huge! And we thought it was DEAD!

Now Princess was getting all mesmerized all over again. Her little mouth started to open and her chin started to tremble as she stared at the fly.

Time went by and I looked up from my computer only to find Princess in the same position, this time having this glazed look over her eyes, still staring. The look in her face was so unreal I started laughing hysterically out loud.

Suddenly, she came to, out of her trance and shifted her little face to gaze at me. She just snapped back and realized I was right there.

:)

[Pipi has already spent all her energy chasing the fly earlier... all she can do now is just stammer and tremble her chin, and murmur... :)) ]

My One Mission In Life

Well - Besides being with mom, that is. That would be catching an errant fly around the house.

You see, when we spot a fly - a rare thing around here - we spring into action. It doesn't matter if we've been sleeping, snoozing, or lounging all day up there with mom. When we get wind of a fly, Googie and I become a tight team. We work together to catch it.

So, this early evening we did. Googie suddenly leapt from the bed to go chase it, I admit I hadn't realized what was going on yet (well, what with the constant rolling around, you know; I mean, I totally forgot about my heated condition and all.)

So then we chased it around mom's room; then I ventured on and chased it clear to the small room as it drove me crazy watching it circle around the lights.

"Don't you DARE get up there!!", mom bellowed. See, she's got all her things all over up there. The closest I could get to it was to jump up halfway [on the side of the tub]. And I tried to stare it into submission with all my muster [and adrenaline] running through my body, my eyes wide open and my spirit ready to fire.

Googie waited just outside the small room as I darted out still chasing it. I was going crazy, I could taste it in my mouth. The last thing I remember is seeing Googie out of the side of my eye jump one last time. And then we lost it.

"WHERE did it GO??!!", mom asked. We looked around, stunned.

As we continued stepping down the stairs looking for it, Googie put nose-to-nose on any little thing that looked like it could've been the fly. But it wasn't.

[Googie pretty much swatted at it, is what I believe happened because it disappeared right after; it just drove them crazy that they couldn't get ahold of it, it probably flew somewhere out of reach.]

New Cat Video of the Week

Hello you awl!
We have a new cat video of the week! It's a kitten playing foosball - first video.

(yeah... YouTube just keeps popping up with other random ones hitting my parade... oh well .. just ignore the rest, okay?)

Not The Right Time

Mom came in tonaight and did her usual thangs. Ah followed 'upstairs' as usual, checked in on her in the 'small room' and Ah parked it right there next to her feet. Ah wasn't expecting anythang else, really. And then she did an unthankable thang to me: She leaned over and picked me up like she does in our morning routine.

Ah wasn't expecting thees. Ah felt quate uncomfortable with this unpredictable development and called her out awn it. Mah body stiffened a bit while mom asked me what was the matter.

Ah just waited patiently for her to get through hugging me and rubbing her cheek up against mane, while mah tail continued to swing back and forth.

'Dees just wasn't the right TIME, okay? In the mornin' Ah'm awl for it, and Ah even purr to all hale over it.

Not in the evening.

[I guess I didn't realize just how much cats are really ... regimented.]

An Ah-HAH! Moment

Tonaight, Ah was on a roll. Busy chasing Pipi up and 'downstairs' and then back up again.

And just as Ah was takin' mah last futile swipe at her ever-moving fast butt, who do Ah see standing there.

"Ah-HAH!!", mom called out at us. We both stopped in our tracks, Pipi and Ah.

To tale you the truth, Ah didn't know WHO was in trouble: Me or Pipi? Ah stood there for a few moments, one paw in front of the uther with mah eyes all wide waiting for more clues. Usually, it's Pipi who starts darting away guilty as hale. But naw, she just stood right in front of me, looking at mom in the same frozen position.

Well, to be honest? We ALL just stood there looking at each other. And then we pretty much forgot about it; Ah mean, Ah did. Ah had to start moving again, you know?

A Reactionary Cat

Pipi is running wild again for a short while now and she was begging me the other naight for some play. So, as usual, Ah responded the best Ah could. When Ah see her in this way, rolling all over the floor, thrusting her belly at me and awl... Ah just can't help it but pounce on her and nip her on her back. Ah get at her and trah to gain control.

And then Ah hear mom sayin' somethang mah way.

"Gabriel, stop it... you need to be careful not to hurt her, okay?"

You know? That pretty much stopped mah momentum and Ah just walked away, passing mom where she was sitting and not even looking up at her. Ah just kept walking right into the kitchen. Later awn, same thang - different day: Pipi was going crazy again up on the steps while Ah was trying to mand mah own business just a couple of steps down.

Next thang Ah see, it's mom's face popping out from the kitchen, watching me. Ah didn't even do anythang this time, Ah just stood there trying to be good.

But you know whaat?? When Ah climb up on mom's 'beddie bye' the next morning to lay down close to her and Pipi? Ah dawn't wohn't nuttin' to do with her, really. She tried to come up to me and hold me close but Ah jerked mah head the other direction and moved out of her grasp. It's true, Ah dawn't usually DO that, but Ah wasn't in the mood to be petted. At least, mom can take a hint and she left me alone.

Ah mean, enough is enough: Ah've got Pipi on one hand, literally begging me for play - and then, Ah've got mom on the other hand insisting that Ah dawn't!!

[There is no other plausible reason I can think of that Gabriel would be mad at me today - the only thing is Pipi's predicament. :) ]

Busting Googie

So, I discovered where Googie goes in the morning like I was saying the other time. I had begun to notice that he would disappear out of sight as soon as mom gets up from her 'beddie-bye'.

You see, Googie usually follows me around, that's the way it is. And so, when I don't see him nearby, something's up. I've got to keep close tabs on that silly boy. And so, come to find out he's in there with mom! In the small room!

I walked in there one day and saw him parking it like he was on vacation! So I got in between the two of them and inspected the premises. Nose-to-glass, you know ... the usual. I looked here, I looked there, I passed by mom's feet. And then what do I feel? But Googie pawing my behind!!

I turned swiftly around and slapped him one right on the ear. "What are you doing!??", I squealed.

Disgusted, I walked around and stalked behind the door, planning on surprising him just the same as he continued to just lie there. But mom had a different idea. She spied on me between the crack and surprised ME. Oh well.

Indiscrete Grooming - Encore

Once again, Googie seems to be crossing the line at some point, as Princess becomes increasingly perturbed. A very particular Princess-cat she is.

Wrong place, wrong time perhaps?

An Indiscrete Grooming

Googie likes to come up to me often to grovel for my love and approval. So you know? I do give it to him, I do.
I lick him thoroughly on his head and I put my paw around his neck and shoulder for good measure.

One of the last times this happened, mom came into the picture and Googie turned around to look at her. Well, from that moment on it all changed for us.

Next thing Googie did was to nip me the wrong way under my neck and I wouldn't have any.

I pushed him away, insulted. "NO! Googie, I don't like that okay? Especially when mom is right here looking at us!"

Googie-boy never quite seems to get it at first, unfortunately.

[You just never know the fine points of feline grooming etiquette... ]

Cabana Cat

Okay, so I am hoping and praying this direct video upload is gonna work - right on my own blog!

Gabriel prefers a four-poster area similar to a drapeless cabana. Here's another video as a testament to it.

Pleeeaase, Mom!

Ah thought that mom was gonna go "upstairs" tonight like she usually does. But awl of a sudden, she did a whole uther thang: She took a left instead of a right, and sat where she never sits. [in the dining room]

And then she began to be all quiet and looking at this thang on top of the table where Ah sometimes go and sit at.

Ah hung around for a while, patient. But then Ah started running out of patience and Ah demanded some of her attention.

Ah stood there bah her side, bah the chair, tawlking to her. That, apparently wasn't good enough. So Ah stood up, leaned on her side of the chair, and reached out with mah paw to her: "Hellooo? Hello, 'dere, what ARE you doing??'

She would reach over and stroke mah head but wouldn't come away from that thang she was looking so... intensely at.

Ah finally jumped up on the table itself. Ah realized Ah had to compete with this thang and Ah was gonna go right there next to it. At first, mom told me it wasn't cool for me to be up there but then she gave up. And so, Ah circled all over the thang and tried to get her attention. Ah went back and forth in front of her, even stepping on the damn thang repeatedly, seeing that mom's hands were all over it, dancing back and forth on these ... small other thangs... And Ah pressed mah paw on this leetle dangling thing off of it...

Finally, Ah figured Ah'll just settle right by its side, facing mom. Ah now had conquered the thang and Ah was satisfied.

[Gabriel noticed my attention was absorbed on the laptop... and he walked all over the keys trying to divert me... ]

Playing Chicken

Ah resumed mah chasing of Pipi. Well, a modified version of it, you see.

There are times when Ah'm really nawt into it as much but she'll do or say sometin' that will really teeck me off and then Ah'll thank about pouncing. So, Ah postured and bluffed her way - and she took my bait.

Awl Ah have to do mand you, nowadays, is just lean mah body forward real sudden... Just sort of jerk forward. And she jumps.

But mom here, once again, put a cramp to mah style. Again.

You see, Ah don't laike to be called "not naice". And so, Ah just walk away.

(... until temptation gits to me again in just a few seconds later.)

[VIDEO ACCOMPANIED - YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS: FRAME 30 seconds to 37 seconds ]

Hot On The Trail - With A Break

Ah was really teecked off the uther naight at Pipi. Ah started stalking her and running up to her behand and didn't even care that mom was right behand on MAH tail.

Ah tried several times to pounce on her but mom kept interrupting mah momentum - WTF?!!

And so, Ah kept trying, and trying to git 'er. But then, awl of a sudden, Ah felt anuther kand of urging. Which pretty much interrupted me and made me stop right on my tracks.

Ah had to run the other direction and make it to mah bathroom pretty fast. After which point, Ah forgot awl about Pipi and chasing her behand.

[Gabriel hot on Pipi's trail but suddenly had to drop out and take a shit.]

:)

A Change in Shifts

I've been quite busy with all my interests and doings in the house all this time, what with mom chasing me around half the time calling me 'bad cat' after my forays into new spaces or digging up something nifty to keep, or with my flush, hot-and-heavy days rolling on the ground and what not.

And so, I hadn't quite noticed what Googie-boy had been up to all this time. But it did occur to me one day: 'WHERE does he disappear to when mom gets up from her 'beddie-bye' every morning?'

And so, I decided to inquire and find out for sure. I started prodding Googie: 'Hey, Goog? what's going on? Where do you disappear to? I see mom, and then she goes off to the small room ... and then I don't see YOU'.

And then he finally fessed up: "Well, Pipi.. Ah go awn in there to be with her.. what do you thank?!!"

"So what is it that you DO in there Goog??", now I really wanted to know.

"Well, Ah... Ah.. just sit there next to her and Ah look up at her and ..you know, she takes me and holds me on her lap and ..you know, hugs me a lot. Whah?? You mand??"

"Huh! Is THAT SO? No, Goog, I don't mind. But you know what? I'm gonna have to cut in on that, you realize that now don't you? Because you DO know that I'm number one here, RIGHT?! You knew that since day one, didn't you!!??"

"Awkay, Pipi... Awkay...You can have your time with her too, Ah aisn't holding you back or nuthing."

And so, the next time I began to pay closer attention to mom's movements, not that I wasn't alert before mind you, and made sure to accompany her MYSELF to the small room. WITHOUT Googie. I made it a point to have MY quality time with her, like he described HE did.

I made sure to stand up against the magazine stand in there and reach out to her nose, nose-to-nose. Another words, I was pretty much in her face at that point.

[And so, Princess tries to replace Googie (Gabriel) every morning while I'm in the 'small room'...But at least now they alternate.]

:)

A View From The Top

You know, Ah've been seeing Pipi awl this time sit up there on top of the thang [couch], sitting awl pretty like Ah can't get to her.

Well you know? Ah figured for once? Ah'm the one who's gonna git on top of there, and Ah did. Ah claimed her spot as mine, for a change.

And then mom comes in from outsade and stops in her tracks, just in time to notice me. She actually didn't know what to do. And she couldn't very well order me to come down, you know... That's just not the kand of behavior expected in our house...

Ah just wanted to show Pipi that there ain't nuthing Ah can't get to... And then she could re-claim her spot, like she did.

Time To Go

Mom was gettin' ready to go to 'beddie-bye' the uther naight and Pipi and Ah were hanging around as usual nearbah. In fact, I was standin' near the 'small room' while Pipi was still in her crazy phase, rolling about awl over the carpet.

And so it came time Ah guess but Ah lingered behand. Ah was just watching Pipi rollin' and writhing against the wall close to the door. Eventually she came to as mom started to tale us both 'time to go to beddie-bye', and she started to walk awn out the door.

But Ah just didn't want to take the chance and get too close. Ah had beean dealin' with this foolishness AWL day lawng and Ah wasn't takin' any chances for another tangle. Pipi on one hand starts beckoning to me, then literally begging me and tauntin' me - and when Ah do step up? She starts screamin' at me.

So mom tried to tale me, it's time again. "C'mon? Gabriel? Out?", she said as Ah stood near her leg, reluctant to move. Ah kept looking at Pipi ahead of me, not wanting to move at AlL, actually.

"C'mon, now? It's time...", she said again. Ah took a few steps but budged again. Pipi was steel in her crazy.. rubbing against the railing and the floor, and everywhere..

Ah finally walked out the door at mom's urging very carefully, keeping my body close to the opposite wall just to make sure Ah won't run into Pipi. Watching her the whole time, ever so vigilantly so Ah don't end up in anuther tangle.

:)

Pipi's Predicament

I've been having my moments lately, feeling very flush and very eager, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I also feel the urge to mark my territory carefully in as many spots that I can figure out. So yesterday, I began to scope out a new spot I hadn't gotten to before. So, okay, it was that way-out corner in the dining room, so what?

I sniffed my way around there, pondering.. and contemplating, should I or shouldn't I? I was absorbed all in my little world, it was my moment.

When suddenly I became aware that it was too silent in the house. I was no longer hearing mom go about her things in the kitchen. I turned my neck startled and what did I see? Mom AND Googie standing there, scoping ME out.

I just couldn't believe it - they were BOTH standing there, stalking me! Looking like they were about to ...pounce! Googie had lowered his face to the floor, his chin almost down on the carpet, eyeballing me: "Pipi, are you really gonna do that again?!". And mom was standing near next to him just staring.

I stared back for a couple moments, busted and in disbelief.

Aww, shit! I'll just get the hell outta here - this is SO embarassing!

[Ran downstairs, tail up. ]

Gabriel's Passionate Embrace

Ah was with Pipi tuday in the daning room and she was provoking me again to make out with her. So Ah stepped up to the plate and got into a rather passionate embrace, mah mouth awl over her neck - and it lingered there whale she just hung in ecstasy, upside down.

Until mom crashed our scene. Ah kind of knew she was standin' there but Ah was too involved now to break away. Ah just continued mah long embrace with Pipi, Ah had her with mah paw around her neck and shoulder, as she layed her head on the floor and stared at the ceiling. And Ah just continued to nip at her neck.

Mom stood there, not knowing what to do. " WHAT is THIS all about?? ", she uttered.

Well, Pipi pretty much came to and broke it off. And now, Ah was sitting there all bah myself, facing mom dead-on.

She continued to stand there, looking right at me. "So what was THAT?", she demanded to know.

Ah looked at her momentarily, having come back to mah senses - mah eyes all big and dilated now... Ah didn't know what to do. So Ah just looked away, Ah turned mah head to mah right looking at the wall. Hoping this awl's gonna go away and that she'll forget about it.

There are some thangs that just can't be explained to mom, okay??

Don't Worry Pipi

Mom went out the door the uther day laike she does usually.

But she came back a little too quickly when she should of just been gone, like usual. Pipi and Ah were standin' bah the lower steps, wondering what was going awn.

So as mom came back through the door, we both felt a little apprehensive, Ah thank you'd cawl it. Pipi was stooping right next to me, not sure what to make of it. You see, this is how it usually happens if mom gets one of us into the really small thangs [carriers] and next thang we know, we're out of our home!

But as Ah studied mom's face and movements, Ah decided that it should awl be okay.

Ah turned to Pipi, nose-to-nose, to assure her thangs are okay, trying to placate her as Ah then turned back to watch mom carefully - to make sure mahself...

[He is STILL scared of being taken out of the house after two entire years... At least he would never run out, I can guarantee you THAT. ]

:)

Ah'm Nawt A Pig

Ah dawn't just jump on mom just because she's so close bah. Ah mean, when Ah'm perched up at the top of the couch? Lookin' out the window? And then Ah decide Ah want more close-up quality time with mom? Where she's layin' on the couch right below me?

No, sir - Ah won't just jump like a pig on her, Ah have mah manners.

Ah will test the waters carefully, so to speak, reaching hesitantly first with one outstretched paw toward her, leaning down ever so carefully, trying to balance mah 'belly-belly'... And once Ah get this awl right, Ah will then very softly land on her 'belly-belly' without a hitch.

The last thang Ah wanna do is hurt mom, aw no.. that would be unthankable of me.

Doing My Dirty Work

This is just amazing to me, to see how clever and sneaky my Princess cat can be:

I was in the 'small room' the other day when I looked over and saw her go straight for the garbage pail. It was full of dirty stuff, things I was worried she might swallow (like my earplugs) and so I quickly told her to get on out of there.

She did. But she had a plan.

Next thing I see, it wasn't even thirty seconds later, Gabriel comes in:

He goes straight for the garbage pail.

It was like: "AH'LL do it for ya, Pipi, honey ... don't worry.. ", so he starts nose-ing into the pail, trying to rummage FOR her !!

"OUT! OUT!", I go. He too quickly made his exit, gingerly bouncing out the door.

"Ah tried, Pipi.. Ah deeed.."

:))

Perched On Top

Princess has taken a liking to a certain spot downstairs where she sleeps or snoozes, sometimes even when I'm in the house. I have noticed this a while now but thought nothing of it. But then, when she disappears and I'm looking for her, I discover that she's right over at that specific spot: it's the uppermost perch on the rec room couch.

Why there?

Suddenly it occurred to me: This is the most comfortable yet secure spot for her, a place to get away from Gabriel and have peace and quiet and be able to snooze without interruption.

"Without interruption", I say, because 'Googie' likes to smother her. I have seen him go up to her while she's relaxing, nipping at the back of her neck, trying to dominate her, get her to play, and god knows what else. (And no, this goes on when she's not in heat.) And so, it finally dawned on me why she's picking that spot routinely, on a daily basis now: she's just trying to get some peace of mind! This way she can see him or sense him coming, if he tries to climb up - she doesn't get ambushed in a sudden manner.

Love can be smothering sometimes, you know?

Better Double-Check

Mom was going out the door as usual as Googie and I were standing around to watch her leave "downstairs". I was stooping near the couch and he was by the window, his usual spot, where he thinks he is really hunting. All he does, really, is just watches life go by him and he thinks that's hunting, ha!

Anyway, so mom all of a sudden said something I wasn't expecting as she was going out the door:

"NO fighting, okay?! No fighting."

You know, I usually just stand there and watch her but this time, when I heard that it sort of alarmed me. Whaat, what do you mean? Is Googie about to pounce on me?? I quickly turned my head over to him to check and make sure.

Nahh.. he was clueless...
