PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

Let'er Eat!

Awl is well here y'awl. Ah just wanted to let 'yar awl know that now that mom's gotten me into a new kinda routine.

You see, Ah have learned that Ah'm not supposed to go over to Pipi's bowl. Sometimes Ah forget, and then Ah hear:

"Let her eat. Let her eat, please!"

Ah quickly step away and out of the keetchen.

Ah aim to please.

[Gabriel is getting way too big and I'm worried about his overall health in his later years. So I literally hang around until they both eat their portions and I have to make sure he doesn't eat hers. ]

This Way Pipi

Pipi has been rampaging all throughout the house the last few days. She's rolling and screaming, occassionally, and pretty much drivin' me nuts. Ah try to stay away but sometimes Ah just can't help it - Ah run to her and trah to dominate her, do SOMETHING anywah, not sure whaat.

Tuday, Ah figured out a new approach: Ah decided to share mah huntin' with her so Ah showed her the way to the glass door. Where Ah laike to sit and keep vigil, and stalk the "birdies", look for the "squirrel", and the chipmunks.

Up to now, Ah hadn't shared any of that with Pipi but tuday Ah deed, Ah deeed. So we both crouched low on the floor with our noses up against the glass, stalking our prey. Together.

That pretty much kept 'er quiet, ya see...

Aw Hale! She's At It Agin!

'Ello, 'dere, Gabriel here for a change. And wowiee, last naight Pipi started up agin.. Her crazy days, you know? Ah saw her right away startin' to roll awl over the steps. And I raan toward her real fast, didn't wanna mees anytin'. Ran over and smelled her real careful. Yeeep, she's ready to go off-kilter agin.

She started hissing at me while Ah tried to get control over her and awl. Ah pawed at her a leetle, tried to get her bah her neck a leetle, but she didn't laike that. So Ah retreated and watched her make a fool of herself from afar.

Mah, mah, mah - oh-mah... WHAAT is a cat-man to do??!! She rolls around beckoning to me and when Ah get to her she flips out!

[Princess is starting to into another heat cycle...]

The Right Scratching Area

There's another thing. You see, we have our own areas all over. Like in the kitchen, a while back mom had brought this rug and she wanted it one way. But we wanted it another way, I just didn't like it the other way. And so after so many times of turning it around to fit near our 'nummy-num' bowls? Mom gave up and let us keep it the way we wanted it. I figured, it's right by our stuff and so, it MUST be for us, I KNOW she must have brought it in for us.

And so, I told Googie it was okay to dig his claws all over it, I mean ... I do it too. But not to the other rug outside the kitchen. No-no. THAT rug? That's been there for a really long time and I don't think mom would be happy if she saw us digging into that rug. So we have a pact: OUR scratchy-scratch place is near our bowls and that's where it stops.

... I gotta keep that bad boy reigned in, I tell you. She yells at him about it as it is, you know?

[My kitchen area rug looks like a frekking scratching post while the runner in the dining room is intact.. thank god...]

Other Things I Like To Do: Advanced Edition

Being the precocious-Princess here takes some work, to be sure. You see, I do get bored with the every day hum-drum routine of, say...chasing around the same old mouse toys and such. And so, not only do I like to get into mom's things in the kitchen, like unscrew the water bottle cap, or steal the sink stopper. I also go for the more complicated things.

Like, climb up and stretch myself to impossibility so I can get that other thingy, on top of the lamp. To be sure, this operation is done when I am absolutely sure mom is not around. It's a pointy-thingy, and it's calling me every time. I get it, I manage to unscrew it, and I HIDE it. Sometimes mom tries to hide it from me but I know where to find it.

And, let's not forget that I'm also capable of dismantling thingys behind those other square things [the stereo speakers].

Googie couldn't even come close to this type of ... uh, detailed type handiwork.

Copy-Cat Scale

There's this other thing now, I can tell you. You know I always follow mom around, right along with Googie. So in the morning when she gets up, I'm nearby her (well, sometimes I'm still in my own bed to be honest, still snoozing). So she goes into the small room (bathroom) and does a few different things. One of the things I see her do pretty much every morning, is she steps on this square white thing on the floor... and then there is a smaller open square right on it, with a little thingy that's moving back and forth ..oh, I'd like to pounce right on it. But I just watch instead.

Both her feet are right on this square thing, and she looks down on it -- and waits until the little thingy stops moving. Then she steps off. And that's when I step on it, it's my turn then.

I step on it and stick my paw on the little thingy, try to figure it out. Yep, I follow through after her almost every time.

[... the weight scale.. ]

I Will Overcome (the remote)

As you might have heard previously, Googie was the intended target of the 'flyin' thang' - and I got even more perturbed by it just by being nearby that time. You see, mom has a nasty habit of playing with me, trying to scare me, with this same flying thing once in a while. And then she starts laughing at me.

Well - I am not going to be laughed at. As much as my first reaction is to run? Upon catching first sight of the 'flying thing'? (TV remote control) -- I have learned to make peace with it.

I can't just be altogether banned from my favorite place, mom's 'beddie bye', just because of this damn flying thing lurking nearby me. And so, when she reaches for it? And I've just jumped on the bed? I have overcome this overriding urge of mine to jump off and run. I've put nose-to-flying-thing and I make peace with it.

.... I'm just tired of jumping up and down and in and out of bed -- especially when after the fact? I hear mom laughing!

[Princess is skittish and spastic, as usual ... she sees my hand going to the remote control while we're in bed and thinks it's gonna go flying because that's what happens downstairs in the living room if Googie scratches the carpet... But please note: no 'flyin' thang' ever actually touches them and nowhere near them... More important, she now knows "it's okay".. ]

Three New Videos Posted in the Blog

We have three new videos... well, actually, some of them are a few weeks old. Like the 'Belly Up!' video, showing Gabriel doing the belly roll on-command. That was right about the same time he had begun his belly routine a few months ago.

We also have "A Cozy Afternoon", a few seconds worth of video of Princess up-close and personal. With a white paw on her back...

And also "Gabriel Mis-steps"... maybe you'll see why I have interpreted a Southern accent to him through this video... (chortle!)

:))

"Heere, Kitty-Kitty!"

I'm Princess here and was lounging comfortably with mom and Googie up in the 'beddie-bye'. The big noisy box was on, "the TV", and we were all happy and cozy. Until all of a sudden I begin to hear this MAN call out to me in this really suspicious manner:

"Heeeere, Kitty-Kitty-Kitty..."

I'm no fool! I quickly got up and bounced out of the room, to be safe. Mind you, I didn't run or anything... but, I did bounce briskly. I wanted nothing to do with anybody going "Heeere kitty-kitty-kitty to me.. I know what that amounts to, trust me."

["We" were watching "Alien" up in the bedroom and this was during the scene where one of the male crew is looking for the orange cat. You know, the orange cat belonging to "Ripley", Sigourney Weaver's character. And he's wandering through this wet area where the 'Alien' is lurking about as yet unseen, looking for the cat.... ]
