PRINCESS's STORY

"The Princess Diaries" began about fourteen years ago as emails to cat loving friends. They were stories about Princess's diary, a tabby cat who was born in 1989 when I rescued her. She was about four months old. She was in tune with everything I did or even think, she always amazed me so much, I just had to write about her. After nineteen years with me, she
went to the Rainbow Bridge in August of 2008.

The house felt painfully empty after her passing. But I vowed never to replace her. In my heart, she was irreplaceable.
And then I started to see her in my dreams. Suddenly, I remembered one morning that I had seen her back in her healthy form and I was told "she is ready now". I was not sure what that really meant.

Just a couple of days later, I was led to a pet psychic by other people at an Expo event. It was an unplanned, spontaneous occurrence, I had not thought about visiting a pet psychic and did not even have a picture of her that they could use.
Princess' spirit came through the pet psychic who repeated those same words I had heard in the dream: "She is ready" .... to be born again.

How would I find her? How? She said it would be "like a Petsmart, one of those places".

I took it in stride. I still did not want to replace her with any other cat. One day, about 2 months later, I found myself suddenly making a turn off the main road into a Petco I never go to, away from my area. I felt compelled to go in even though I had no other cats to care for. I spotted an adoption fair poster in there... and I heard clearly in my heart and mind the thought that 'you've got to follow up on this - don't let it go'. I did.

I returned for the adoption fair and as I entered, I began to feel like I was in a trance.. I kept looking in cages but could not "feel it". Finally, I came to the end of the cage line and I stood motionless, staring at this tiny tabby baby sleeping on top of a larger orange fluffy kitten. She was less than 2 months old. As I stood there, contemplating my feelings, the orange kitten stood up and came to the front of the cage, reaching out to me with his paw... He let out a meow at me as he saw me take a few steps away, mulling this sight over in my mind. I turned to see this kitten holding out his paw at me, literally meowing for me to come back...

When Princess II came home with Gabriel, she was barely 2 months old. And she knew. She knew all the old tricks and phrases - and she wanted to show me exactly what she knew.
She was born in the same type of body, a tabby.

I could not tell while she was a tiny baby but she grew to have the same type of bow-legged look to her hind legs. She also carried the same fear. Princess was fearful of the scrunchy sound of plastic or paper bags all throughout her life with me, it may have been something that had happened to her in her first 4 months of life before I rescued her. She also had a herniated belly when I found her in 1989. Now this new kitten, as she grew, had a slight protruding feel on the same spot of her belly, although vets did not detect anything 'wrong' with it.

To this day, the new Princess is still fearful of scrunchy bag sounds while no other cat in the household is.
"It's time for beddie bye now", I said when she returned to the house as a two-month old - and on cue, she climbed up the stairs immediately and looked down at me from upstairs for my reaction. I was just floored ...this little kitten responded to a phrase she never heard of before. "Wanna get some 'nummy-num'?" - Yes! She ran to the bowls. This was her first time as a new kitten in the house.

It was a miracle - and we are still living it. It has been now been over 8 years later now since her new incarnation.

A Drunken Frenzy

I woke up at the crack of dawn today and went down to the kitchen; something didn't seem right since late that night when I heard weird noises right before shutting my eyes. I was too tired or resigned to investigate for the umptenth time, knowing that Princess is always getting into something... be it 'stealing' the cap off of the water bottle, jumping down from the counter, 'attacking' the fake fig tree, or god knows what else. I think she's been going through another heat cycle too. So, I go down to the kitchen at the crack of dawn and discover to my horror that they've managed to open the kitchen pantry door... must've left it a crack open. Everything was in disarray, half the stuff off the shelves was strewn all over the floor, it was mostly pet stuff. Princess's old petsitting report sheets, old medicines from before, pi-cups, syringes, everything... Including a bag of catnip that was never opened... I have no idea where it came from.

Catnip was everywhere up and down the pantry ... I finally saw what remained of the empty plastic bag... They were both in a frenzy. Next thing I know, I hear a plaintive meow from around the corner, wondering which one is it now... I run over just in time to see Princess crouching in front of Gabriel - Gabriel, taking an aggressive about-to-pounce stance. Broke it up and went back to sleep... This was way too early to deal with. But I made sure to close the pantry door (!) This proved to be not good enough; I should have separated them, I didn't realize just how frenzied they were.

By the time I woke up later (much later..), I found Gabriel with his one eye totally shut.

You've probably all seen their fighting by now on the latest video but it'd be hard to say who did what to whom... :) ... Did Gabriel push it too far and he got his proverbial oats? Or was Princess a frenzied dominatrix once more?

I had to rush him to the vet... We ended up spending an entire 2 hours there today. He must of been in quite a bit of pain because he didn't make a peep during the drive over there. I only had to go after him twice before I could put him in the carrier, he had given up. The vet had to administer a special dye on his eye, shine an ultraviolet light on him to see just how bad the scratch was, rinse it off, and then some. She showed me the scratch under the black light - it was big. All over his eye in fact.... But she said it wasn't deep and she thought it should heal in time. We then had to give him eye ointment. Incredibly, he was patient throughout most of the ordeal. He liked the vet tech, and he was fine with the vet as well. He just didn't like the male vet tech, part of his pattern (he's got a thing against males in general.)

Something about this whole visit put me in a really bad mood... Just ... seeing Gabriel being man-handled (the vet told me not to touch him when she was working on his eye), and hearing him weakly protest in his squeaky voice just took the perk out of me.

They wanted $210.00 when all is said and done... After the receptionist saw my shocked face, they reduced it to minus "the $60.00 emergency fee".... I was thinking, what the hell would I do if I didn't have the money?? Would I be begging? I mean, my cat could go blind... We have to return on Monday because his eye needs to be monitored closely. I have to give him the ointment 3 times a day... good luck on that... Gabriel likes to use his paws to express himself if you know what I mean...

A Word on Refreshing and YouTube

Just to let you all know that sometimes you may need to hit the Refresh button on my blog to make sure you view the right videos. If you can't catch the third one, "Gabriel Stick Paw Kitty", you should be able to find it directly on YouTube.

Key words for all videos are: Princess Diaries tabby Gabriel orange cat - then add pink sheets, stick paw, etc.

Enjoy!

The Pink-Sheet Series

We have a series of three to four new videos here now that only moving pictures could tell the full story... I'm just beyond words at this point. :)

Gabriel seems to be very mindful of the boundary line between the pink sheets and the blanket. He doesn't seem to want to cross that line into bare-sheet territory. Not sure how he got that one, but we can all guess how that might have happened. On the next video, a few minutes later, Princess catches him on the bed and is not happy about it. Was she mad because he was laying on her spot? Or because he crossed the line? :) I cannot believe how this tiny cat has such amazing domination over this large, fluffy, big boy. She finally gets him to come down from the bed altogether as you'll see from the video, while he takes the submissive stance, flat on his back, unable to control his big belly that keeps rolling back and forth. But he gets a few nips and jabs in before it's all over.

Finally, they've made up now... Different day, granted. And Gabriel is so happy and content, he lets his paws just stick up in the air. Stick-paw kitty.
